Have a customer that has a marantz 5008 with a samsung bluray player that has been installed for 4-5 years working perfectly until the last few months where the bluray player works intermittently. It turns on but no picture is displayed. Have done a firmware upgrade on both the player and receiver and nothing works. Replaced the HDMI cable from player to receiver, tried a different player, tried different input on the receiver nothing works. I unplugged and old player from power, moved input on the receiver turned everything on and it works. Then turn everything off as is was and then back on, no picture again. Any ideas

Also I have ran a new HDMI directly from player to tv and just put the audio into the receiver and this works but the client wants the OSD for volume...

I’d say your looking at a failed hdmi board in the marantz.

Hook up a cheapy BD player and see if it works?
Pull one out of another room if one is available and you don't have one on the truck.
See our Youtube page for info about smart homes, great audio and more.

Tim - Sounds like you narrowed this down to the 5008.

How about having it repaired at Audio Video Doctor in Charlotte? Or ship to Pyramid Audio in Austin - They're my go-to repair shop.

the directv box will work through the receiver as long as there is an hdmi splitter between the sat box and receiver

So you are saying if you DON’T have the splitter prior to the Marantz receiver the DTV won’t work either? That points to some wacky HDMI issue, and I still blame the Marantz.

When the BD picture fails are you loosing the GUI volume bar as well, or just the BD picture? Does sound also quit or does it keep going from the Marantz?

Have you checked output resolution on the the Sam BD vs the DirecTV box?
