If I was getting a new box or system i'd do the DeWalt toughsystem.
Its cheaper than the milwaukee plus it has a 'racking system' that you can do in a van or in a garage.

I just realized looking at this one that while reading all these responses I have ignored the fact that the ones I'm now using have molded plastic clips to keep the lid down. Those clips are a VERY weak point in the design. Two of the six containers I've used have become useless because of those clips breaking.

I've used Plano boxes and they LAST. In fact, the two boxes I have worked for me for more than ten years each. Plano even supplied some replacement parts when one of them wore completely down!Time to go look at them again.

The only Plano boxes that broke for me were dropped and I don't handle them gently. I usually buy at least one spare because I always find something that needs to be boxed and organized and I also use their boxes for fishing lures. I have two of these-one for drill bits and one for sockets, combination wrenches, ratchets, etc.

Some of these for adapters & connectors (RCA-RCA, F-RCA, BNC-RCA, BNC-F, F81,F connectors), one for Planet Waves ends, one each for nuts and washers and one for wall anchors. They go vertically into the Aldrich shelf unit bins and I put a box of Togglers in one to keep that group from flopping around, the other bin has two boxes of rough-in rings (LV-1 and LV-2).

I have one of the for Voice/Data parts, termination tools, small testers- another for RF ends, adapters, termination tools, small tester, one for Banana plugs, audio adapters and audio keystone inserts and another for loaded Decora inserts & other related parts. These and a thinner box that holds screws go in a box I mounted on the end of my Weatherguard shelves-

I buy most from Menards or WalMart.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

I have started using the Ridgid system from Home Depot and I really like the size and the fact that they connect together.

They also make a small parts box that I am just starting to put together.  They are big enough to allow you to have a bin for power cords, one for HDMI cords, one for wall plate stuff and then you can easily stack and secure them.  They are reasonably priced and easy to get.

Does that have spaces big enough for the cable and RJ crimpers & cable ID tools? I'll have to look at it next time I go to Wally World.

Re the product that highfigh asks about, I'm always concerned about a double-sided case, that it might open on the bottom side. Has this ever happened to someone here?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Doesn't matter if it opens on one side or two, they open. I had a Bucket Boss tool bag lose one of the loops where the strap attaches, just as I put it on my shoulder and turned to walk away from the van. It had rained, so the ditch where it landed had some standing water. Good times. Good times.

BTW- that tool bag fits three of the larger parts boxes with yellow clips and since the boxes are significantly lighter than my tools, I retired the old bag and use it when I need to carry multiple parts boxes.

I will look tomorrow, but it has removable dividers so its probably do-able.

The case is awesome in that it has never opened accidentally.
On each side, it has 2 layers.
The top layer is the clear part for smaller parts / connectors and that can open by itself with a latch on both corners.

Then underneath that are 2 side locking latches and flip them open then the whole side opens up and in there are bigger compartments.

That is the scenario on both sides. Holds a lot of parts, mine is only half full because I keep some things like screws and lags in parachute bags.

I dont know if the competing products have it but the racking thing makes this freaking awesome. I could love to have one in my rack and one in my garage so i could move my gear around while keeping it organized.

That would be great in a larger van- I drive an Astro, so it would take up a lot of space. If the shelves on the driver's side were shorter, it would fit.

They have 3 versions:
1. larger van
2. smaller van
3. garage / workshop

As far as a simple parts box...I got this okeechobee bag over ten years ago. It holds 8 nice sized trays. It has a big pocket on either side and a small pocket up front. Its fabric with a rubber/vinyl bottom. After all these years it still looks brand new except the zipper failed. I can get it zipped up but it just pops open. The handles have velcro so it keeps it closed.

When its fully loaded its heavy but you can walk into a clients home and have every little part you need. I use it primarily for service calls. At a new installation i just bring boxes of new parts. No point in emptying the parts box just to load it back up. After a new installation i sort the remaining parts into my okeechobee.

Its between $40-70 online depending on how many boxes you get inside it. NOTE: if you get one do not believe the dimensions. Mine is almost 20" wide. The specs online show it at 16. Amazon has it at $67 for the 8 box version. Walmart has it for $50 i think. [Link: amazon.com]
