Based on what they do, my guess is they are a way for Facebook to try to compete with Amazon Echo and Google Hub devices. Unlike Amazon and Google, I did not see anything about using the Facebook devices to control things like your lights etc, just a method of making Facebook type of video calls (along with Zoom), playing music and keeping in touch or sharing with friends.
