Well, the first thought, after seeing a TV ad, is, wow, that's pretty neat.
Second thought is, crap, I'd have to actually start using facebook.
Third thought is, yup, it's an electronic device and there are zero wires showing in the ads. Liars.

At the moment they're in the preorder phase, with the Portal at $199, a hundred bucks off if you buy two, and the Portal+ at $349. Like they wouldn't sell more Portal+s if they offered a discount on two.

Companies introduce products without knowing who and where and how they will be used. My reference for that concept was the $27,000 Faroudja line quadrupler of the late 90s. They were stunned when I asked whether they had a model with IR control, since I had two clients who wanted to use them in their homes....
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I love how Ernie trolls people all the time, pretending to not know what they are talking about when it is very clear. Because they left some small detail out.
But then he makes a post like this - have no clue what the hell he is talking about, no info, no link. But it is OK because he is Ernie.
Nice.

After taking a few minutes searching, I found out what the topic is.

Considering that's how you feel, it's sort of interesting what you say next. I honestly don't get what's being discussed some times. How is it okay for you to wonder what the hell I'm talking about, though I exactly identified the product by name in the threat title, but it's not okay for me not to get what's being talked about when identifying details are missing?

Okay, so you don't know what it is. I asked what you knew. I didn't ask anybody to look up anything. If you're going to respond to the subject, your choices seem to have been "I don't know anything about it" or simply no response at all.

Beyond that, I want us to be better at what we're doing, so yeah, I'm lobbying for us to be clear what we're asking and talking about.

But then he makes a post like this - have no clue what the hell he is talking about, no info, no link. But it is OK because he is Ernie.

When I state in the thread title EXACTLY what I'm talking about -- the Portal and Portal+ from Facebook -- I've done something wrong because you don't know what it is? Oddly, when I don't know what you guys are being less clear than that, I've done something wrong. We should all stand back and just assume that what we think is totally clear is NOT totally clear to everyone! And we should be open to questions about the subject.

I started this thread after seeing a TV ad. I decided to ask you guys for your knowledge of the product, not for whether you've heard of it before, nor even for where to look it up. I saw the possibility of this thread becoming a source of info on the products that might be helpful or a thorn in our sides.
Nice.

Well, thanks for that. Yeah, yeah, I know it's sarcasm.

Yup. Like I said. But, see, I was not asking you to look it up. I asked what you knew about it.

Except for the fact that 99.9999% of the people on this forum would think the title is about Portal the proposal app.

That's a good observation. I thought of that.

So I wrote "from Facebook." I haven't ever heard of any connection between Portal the supplier and Portal the Facebook product. I also have never seen anyone write Portal+, so I figured when I wrote Portal and Portal+, that would cover it, and when I added "from Facebook," that would double cover it.

When I think a detail is missing I ask about it, and you think it was obvious, please remember this moment when all the information you needed was right there in the title and, apparently as many as 99.9999% of you* thought it did not mean "Portal and Portal+ from Facebook." That's EXACTLY, only, and all of what it meant.

I didn't do this as a test. I just wanted to know what you guys knew about these things. So can we just answer with that from here on in?

*It was probably more like 10%, with the others thinking "what's he talking about?" KOT actually named himself after his inability to write a sentence, but a) he communicates and b) he got it. jrainey got it, too. So did Brad.

I thought that the Portal that was referred to here alot probably had a facebook page I didn't know about and I kept it moving.

Maybe it's a senior thing.
I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's AV trouble, a man alone.

KOT actually named himself after his inability to write a sentence, but a) he communicates and b) he got it. jrainey got it, too. So did Brad.

Correction, I gave myself this nickname after knowing the fact I couldn’t TYPE. Writing on paper is perfectly fine, much better than others as a matter of fact.

However, the reason I had problems typing wasn’t because I didn’t know how to type. It was the fact that I was using a WebTV... yup a wireless keyboard that used IR for communication. And since I typed on a pillow or something, a good portion of the IR didn’t make it to the receiver. Hence typos.

Thus I just kept the nickname and use it quiet often.

Well, I've come to see your writing is better than I thought.

Makes a lot of sense, except you could improve now. Plus, after the good explanation above, you do this:
Thus I just kept the nickname and use it quiet often.

Quite often, that is.
