Rant

We've been wall mounting tvs for 15 years. The need to suspend heavier-than-gravity power cords, HDMI cables, mount-release pull-strings, and now TV wall warts still plagues us.

Why haven't TV manufacturers taken responsibility to provide a cord-stop? Don't they ever install these things? Mount manufacturers haven't stepped up either.

For the love of everything good about our industry, can one of you just invent something? I'll buy 20.

Rant over

Be patient. In just a few years all TVs will have just one RJ45 on the rear which will provide PoE, 8K over IP, 16 channel ARC and a premium lager beer tap on the side.

In the pre-wire stage, I always set the electrical and low-voltage cables 2 to 3 inches down from the top of the TV. When the cables come from up high, they are easy to manage and will not hang down.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

I do the same.

And

Lager? Gross. Haha.

On the subject of cables though I will add to the rant.

Power cord that plugs into the bottom where it will inevitably sag below the TV.

Power cord near the middle where it will interfere with the mount.

HDMI ports RIGHT near the side, so cables have no choice but to visible from the side with out adapters, and one lone port sticking STRAIGHT off the back. Like it’s taunting me. That’s the one I want to use but I either have to use adapters or cut a hole in the wall. Why can’t they make that one a side loading port too!

For that matter, ANY port sticking straight off the back.

No direct IR input. Some have them. Most don’t. (I know I know use IP - I just like trusty old works all the time IR).

I've been doing it that way for a long time.

It seems silly not to.

I tried that with my rack that I hastily changed/added stuff into over the last 7 years just to get it operational as quick as possible to keep my family happy.

Didn't work!

She didn't understand so I had to re-wire it my self!

Foil duct tape. Once tv is up slap a piece of that on any wire that may fall attaching it to the back of tv. Done forever. If you do the the wire free. It tears easily by pulling the wire through it. If you don’t like silver, a large tip sharpie marker turns it black before you put it on.

I'm sure that someone will come up with the bright idea of inductive power to the TV and wireless signals. This will create interesting issues for articulated mounts and miscellaneous coupling of the charger into our audio. Lets hope that non wireless couplings are optical. And, of course, everyone will have their own proprietary signal and inductive power formats.

At least Chief mounts have the magnets on the mount release strings. These stick right to the back of TVs where they can't be seen.

I do the same as others, Plates and outlets up high. Then I use the extra holes on the mount brackets to zip tie power cords and such.

The issue only happens with fixed mounts. Articulating/cantilever have their cables managed so it can never happen.

These days i have 2 cables (power & hdmi)...3 max (control if CEC not available).

I use velcro. Sticky back square on the TV and a velcro cable wrap.
