I should start this threat by stating that I despise doing satellite installs. In fact, I do about 1-2 per year.

In the past week, I've gotten calls from three customers stating that they've all of a sudden lost their HD channels. A quick signal check reveals that the signal level of either/or 110/119 has dropped from the 80's to the 20's while the 110 satellite remains up in the 80's.

All three called Directv and all three were told to consult their installer because there's nothing wrong on their end.

The problems are all exactly the same and seem too coincidental to blame on a tree limb or a gust of wind.

I was wondering if anyone else was having problems with either 110 or 119 in the past couple of weeks.

None in So California
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I have had one client who's HBO HD is coming and going, but all transpoders (except 23 which is not the HBO transponer) are in great shape 85+, strange thing is he has two HD boxes and both are dropping out on HBO HD only. I have had no other recent calls regarding that and we probally have 200 HD boxes installed. No problems with our showroom either.

Thanks,

It's must be the fault of the installer and/or the weather conditions.

Good point. If the installer does not make a point of tweaking all three satellites, and there WILL be a compromise somewhere, then the resulting low but normally acceptable signal level could drop too low due to weather.

One other thing to look into, It was about two years ago now (I think) that a bunch of triple lnb dishes were shipped that were fine in normal weather temps, but when it got cold they started to loose signal on B and C and usually lost one or two of the four outputs (these were some of the first integrated multiswitch 3 lnb dishes). This could be the case if you are using a multiplexer or at least three of the outputs from the integrated multiswitch. Just a thought, but it could be a low temp issue.

Very interesting. I've never heard that one before, but things certainly have been cold.

What brand box is having problems.

We've had problems with Hughes boxes (and the mits re-badge)

They just get old and die!

But good news is that there is a fix at the repair shop that should be somewhere in the $100 range.

2 out of the 3 are the old RCA DTC100. The third is a newer Samsung.

I have one customer that continually loses sat 101 transpondre 10 and that is the only bad one. Of course it is CNN's transponder, so its a bad deal.

Everything else is 87+ signal level, but the best I can get that particualr transponder is the mid 30's. Any suggestions? I never deal with sat installs. I was thinking changing the LNB might help, yes or no?

Just a note here,

I recently replaced an old single LNB dish w/ triple LNB dish.
sat A 90's- 100
B & C - nothing

house was obstructing the dishes view to the right (west) ((this install was in PA))
I moved the dish to the south end of the house, 90's- 100's on all 3 sat's

I would try replacing the wire. It could have been pinched somewhere and causing a problem only at that certain frequency....?? maybey

A note to all that have installed the HD samsung receiver for directv...

I have replaced almost all the ones that I have installed due to problems with them accepting updates..

On a few occasions I demanded Directv send me new receivers that were not samsungs and got LG's or Sony hd200 receivers..

They worked fine after that so if you are having problems with an HD samsung receiver or any samsung directv receiver you might want to look into replacing it...

Just my 2 cents...

i have a customer with an hd tivo, and an hd sumsung the hd tivo is working perfectly with tow dedicated lines from the dish. while the samsung is acting up on the same two sats that you are having problems with. when i check signal the screen shows my signal in the 90's but says i have wrong sats. the samsung is coming off of a multiswitch so i will be replacing that p.o.s this week. but i'm thinking it might be the reciever.
