hooked up, digital audio cable, RG6Q connected
to wall and a power cord for the box. All zip

at the other ends - just connect to the box and
switch TV to input xx. They can't even get that
right. Boobs!

I look at cable installers the same way as I do drywall hangers. You give them ANY chance of messing it up and they'll jump at the opportunity.

I resisted, I hate cable as an institution, but
when it comes down to the final issue...profitability...cable
is the way to go now.

More problems than ANY sat system I've EVER had contact with.

Are the HD boxes solid....hell no they suck
But since you did not install the boxes, are not
responsible for them, once you have diagnosed
the problem to the cable box, no more onus. It
is a hell of alot easier to be compensated for
your trouble shooting and reinstall time when
it is comcast's crap.

First thing you'll find out. The HD cable boxes will lock up periodically, just the same as the sat boxes.

And it REALLY doesn't matter that you have nothing at all to do with that crummy cable box, you'll be out there helping to correct the system ills.

The latest joke around this area is Time Warner VOIP.

Just lovely, now your cable service is down, and you can't even call to complain about it.....lol

Sorry, TSS but around here, I have to agree with rmht on this one. HD Cable (Cablevision) has been quite reliable, and has features (HD Locals)(On Demand) that DTV can't compete with... The problems with their techs being boobs is true for the most part, but the customers already know this, so when we tell them we'll come back and clean up after them, they understand...

We have Comcast, Adelphia and Armstrong Cable in the Pittsburgh area. I have yet to have any install that involved them and HD go right. The latest one was a Motorola HD PVR. The tech could not get the box to comunicate back with their head end. We had not finished mounting the plasma, and he wanted to leave quickly. He said that he did not need to see it hooked up to the plasma, as they can ping the unit from back at the office. He was at it for over an hour, when I walked over to him and in front of my customer I told him that the equipment usually works better when it is pluged into an electrical outlet!

The biggest "problem" with cable installers is their lack of training. The cable company's could care less about anything BUT cable! Why would a Ford dealer train someone to work on Chevy's?

The "installers" only know what "the company" has taught them, wich isn't very much.
Most (not all) have very little interest in the world of consumer electronics. They are just trying to make a living at SOMETHING, It doesn't really matter what. I doubt that they spend any of their 'off' time trying to learn more about the industry and become better at what they do.

Cable is a commodity. The only "excitement" an employee is likely to get is an unexpected day off! Much like a factory worker.

I do wish that they would quit screwing up my stuff, though!!!
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!
