“For nearly two decades, Wi-Fi users have had to sort through technical naming conventions to determine if their devices support the latest Wi-Fi,” -

With an owner's manual/sheet, Google and Wiki, why is this difficult?

FWIW, Sonos operates in 802.11b/g- it isn't even up to n yet.

All SonosNet 2.0 devices use 802.11n hardware with MIMO support--basically all of their current product offerings. The mesh is created in the 2.4Ghz band, while the 5Ghz band is reserved for bonding surround systems to the Playbar, Beam, etc.

How about the fact they are changing the names of the previous WiFi naming?

So for Sonos it will say 1 to 3.

It should’ve been a numbering schem from the start anyways. Software versions, for the most part, are in a numbering schem.

IEEE has a numbering scheme- it has to do with the standards they describe and it's not as simple as 1-6. 802.11 with letters after is fine, as long as those who are involved with it keep up n their training. Consumers only need to know if they're hobbyists or more involved than people who ask "Why doesn't my WiFi work?" or "WiFi is the best way to connect".

More dumbing down for the masses.
I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's AV trouble, a man alone.

Does this finally mean that what every homebuilder has been saying for over a decade will finally ring true.

"They don't need all those wires, everything is wireless these days".
(Picture a sarcastic emoji)
I am a trained professional..... Do not attempt this stunt at home.

I got a bad feeling that when 5G gets here and the super thick BS sauce that comes with it, we are going to hear a huge uptick in that crap.

I need to invest in some sedatives.

Hopefully marijuana will be legal nationally in the US by then... or you’re in Canada as it will be legal on October 17th.

or, we could be proactive and plan for the crapstorm and tell people it will not come without its own problems and we could also determine the average level of work and equipment needed to address the solutions.

NAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!
