Problem - I have a job with a Projector that I cannot run a wire to to hardwire an emitter cable from a repeater block in a cabinet (same room). all i want is to be able to trigger the Projector ON and Off.

has anyone used something like this?

EDIT: See Post 3 and Post 9. Don't use a wireless kit. A better solution is offered there, one that rethinks the original question instead of finding what the OP asked for.
End of EDIT.

Hilarious. I was just looking at this kind of product (on the internet) a couple of days ago. It was this: [Link: sewelldirect.com]

I've seen this kind of product work and work well, but it's been years. I expect you'll have to buy one and try it out to know if it'll work for you.

For other such products, search "remote control extender." There will be lots of responses. "Infrared extender" and "wireless IR Repeater" are other terms that will yield search responses for this kind of device.

It's a dumb device, so it will relay all commands that it sees. I don't expect that to be a problem, though.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

does the projector have an hdmi cable run to it?  if so, you could use an IR over HDMI adapter.  I've used them a couple times and they work fine.

I'd trust that over an RF device.

I'd feel better if the IR frequency range of the Vanco unit was 20kHz - 60kHz, rather than the 20-60Hz as quoted on the spec sheet.

I know that we all hate it, but is CEC an option?

I don't know if you want to work with it, but Global Cashé has some very compact options if your control system supports it.

The kit I've seen work is the x10 Powermid. "Powermid" is a joke on its shape, a pyramid. I just found the one I have nearly new in box. If you want it, it's $20 plus shipping after I test it. Let me know.

Oh, yeah, the Vanco device! I've used that too. It uses wires in the HDMI cable that aren't used for anything else. IT WORKS.

Do you know if it works with 4K signals? (Maybe my real question is does the 4K signal use more wires in the HDMI cable?)

The little Vanco pluggy thing goes in line with the HDMI cable and gives you access to an unused pair of wires of the cable. The IR signal, probably modulated at 39 kHz, the plain old electric version of the IR signal, goes along the pair of wires. That's all.

And that's exactly all that's needed to control the projector.

By the way, this is an example of something that we very clever installers sometimes do: The OP needs to control the projector and works out an approach, RF, then asks us how to implement that approach.

Instead, if the question were, can anybody think of a way to control etc etc giving the component details, maybe someone would have come up with the Vanco thingummie early on.

Open questions are sometimes more helpful than focused questions. If the focus is wrong, the whole thing can tank.
