It’s been awhile back but as usual when there’s a new version of Unifi it sends my day into a tailspin.

New version doesn’t like IE, but I can’t figure out how to make it open with anything else. I keep wasting time copying and pasting the url into FF to get it going.

Try Chrome- I gave up on the other two. In fact, one of my computers was often very slow, to the point where I wanted to see if it would be a good Frisbee and I started seeing FireFox update boxes, even though I haven't used it in close to a year. I decided to uninstall it and to my amazement, Chrome has been working very nicely. The only time I need to use Explore is if a DVR needs ActiveX.

I have a couple of desktop shortcuts in chrome that open multiple web pages. Each shortcut is written in the form
"name of Chrome exe file" [URL of RC] [URL of aol]

There are quotes around the Chrome file name. There are no brackets, nor commas, with the URLs I want to open. There's just a space then a URL complete with http:// for each site. On another laptop I have five such URLs that open together. (Oddly, my other laptop and my desktop both require -newtab- or something like that. I'll correct that when I can.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

When you run the unifi software, your computer will use the last browser that was run/used, or the default browser.

to change the default browser - [Link: google.com]

Been using chrome for about 10 years, as my default browser. The old joke is that Internet Explorer is only good for one thing - installing chrome, after a new windows install.

BUT, I've recently started using Firefox more and more - not too comfortable with google collecting all my data. They have everything already, but it's the principal of the matter.

Unless I encounter a site that only works with IE and it's a critical site, I'll use FF, but my copy of FF is very stingy with sharing any info. Some sites will complain about this and demand that I turn OFF this blocking. My response is that I'll return when they stop this nonsense. If I absolutely need to use the site for a mission critical function, I have an unrestricted copy of Chrome.

I was sick of the BS from IE and when I heard about FireFox, I gave it a shot- they were on a low numbered version, maybe 2.1 and they're up to v62.0 now. It has become bloated and cumbersome, IMO- just what they said they wanted to NOT be. I resisted using Chrome for a long time, until I talked to someone I know who runs a computer store- he said they all collect data but Chrome works better than most.

I asked for his opinion about anti-virus and scrubber software, specifically Kaspersky- he said he doesn't use that because he doesn't trust them. I asked why and he said "They're Russian!". That's not a 'Good ol' boy from the USA' attitude, either- he's from Ukraine.

If you're going to use the Chrome browser then I suggest you add the ublock Origin and/or Adblock Plus extensions, to block ads, and annoying popups, and some malware.

I was a big fan of IE until like 8 when they "fixed" a bunch of things that were not broken. I moved to firefox and still use it today. Never got into Chrome because of how it handled roboform. It was like a floatingish bar across the bottom.

Recently Firefox "fixed" some things that were not broken and i lost my roboform toolbar. Now its a little icon on the right side...just like Chrome. I use chrome for work because we use googles apps and i have it setup with zoho bookmarks etc. I use firefox for personal stuff. From time to time i find buggy stuff in chrome that works just fine in firefox. The roboform thing really annoys me but i am learning to live with it.

I have also been playing with edge. I think its pretty good. Roboform is a button like all the other browsers. I only use IE for random crapware that requires activex...as i am sitting here typing i cant remember the last time i needed to use it so maybe the crapware makers finally hired real programmers.

I understand IE is also good for looking up bing so you can get information on google. Did I say that in the right order?
