What are some of the symptoms of sleep apnea for you folks?

KOT

Loud snoring. I stop breathing while sleeping. I didn't notice either of these myself. My girlfriend had been telling me about it for a couple years.

I would wake up in the middle of the night with terrible headaches...for years. This immediately and completely went away after i began using CPAP.

No dreams or no memory of dreams.

Tired all the time. Falling asleep while driving, at my desk, while watching TV etc.

I tried that one first, but my sinuses are so bad I couldn’t keep my mouth shut. And it made me feel like I was smothering. I did better with the darth Vader mask.

I am in the same boat. My nose is always offline due to allergies (weather, the dogs dust etc). The full face masks wouldn't last an hour. I would wake up with them laying in the floor where i ripped them off while asleep.

The doctor said there are so many designs because everyone is different. I have 4 different types at home where i tried to find the best one for me.

We need to look to our government to fix this! (joke!)

Considering the cost of lost productivity and the long term detriment to ones overall health, not too funny...

Actually it IS funny. Read between the lines. When has the government ever fixed anything?

Has this happened yet? Nobody told him how bad of a nights sleep you will have with crap stuck all over you. Some dude watching you on camera. Then they wake you up at dark am and kick you out. Hit the road jack. It sucked.

It was last night. The place was an hour away and I had to be there at 9:00. I actually didn’t sleep too bad and didn’t have too much trouble with the mask. They woke me up at 4:30 and kicked me out. I was home, showered and still had time to make it to my 6:45 book club

Wow....hey there fellow sufferers.

Mac, you and I are running parallel with almost everything you said.

Fins, I had my sleep study done in 2007.
When the report hit my doctors desk he called me himself immediately, normally he's have his nurse call.
He asked how I slept at the study and I said actually the best I have in a long time.

He told me that's scary because I was probably the worst case he's ever seen. I had 120 apneas per hour. That's every 30 seconds.

Yes I had all the symptoms everyone has already said.

So what happened....I got the maching and mask and couldnt use it because I wasnt used to it. I chucked it to the side for about 6 months.
I finally taught myself to use by taking 10 minutes durung the DAY and used it while sitting in a recliner so I could get used to it.
A few days of that and I started using at night. At first only a little while then gradually the whole night but it still wasnt right.

Like Mac, I went through masks trying to find a comfortable one. Probabaly tried 7 or 8 maskes over time until I started using the nasal pillow type, Its the least obtrusive and guess what, I was a severe mouth sleeper but got used to the nasal pillows and taught myself to keep mouth closed. It can be done.
This the the mask ive been using 2 years now. Its the lightest most unobtrusive mask there is...Mac give it a shot

After I got going with the machine there is absolutely no looking back. Cant sleep without it.
I now have an autopap which is awesome.

Good luck man, any other questions just ask. Once you get the hang of it it's actually life changing.

So I also had 50 events an hour according to a sleep study. I have been religious about wearing the CPAP (nasal pillow) for about nine months. I do so because of family history of heart disease and because I snore. However, truthfully I absolutely hate it. I find it difficult to sleep with - and I’m a heavy sleepy. I never experienced any spike in energy or other feel good benefits that people speak of. I will continue to wear it with the hope that I get used to it and it prevents heart damage. I hate it so much I am considering the surgical implant of a device that stimulates the throat/tongue if it detects an episode. Sounds extreme but I can’t stand wearing it that much.

It can also have a profound effect on your sex life. Women just aren’t into guys who look like they’ hunting Japanese Zeros in the South Pacific and sound like Darth Vader.....

I have the nasal pillows. They make my nostrils sore. It takes a good hour for them to stop hurting.

I just looked it up and I had 128 events per hour.

Crazy how many of us have this. Maybe it's caused by HDMI

128 / hour...got me beat by a few, same ballpark.
I used to get sore nostrils also, but no more since using that mask I posted and going to an autopap.

I think it is caused by HDMI....

I too had no idea so many effected and the the potential health consequences were so dire.

I started with a nasal pillow but ended up opening my mouth during sleep and defeating the purpose. Now a all full face and much better. I use the high humidity settings. Everyone is totally different with this stuff.

I was only in the 70-90 events per hour range. I feel so inadequate. I went through about 5 different nasal pilows and masks before I settled on the Philips Dreamwear

Fins -

Ask your specialist about the possibility of wearing an appliance vs. CPAP. I was diagnosed with "moderate" apnea and am having a mandibular advancement device made. These are supposedly effective in dealing with mild (5 - 14 episodes per hour) and moderate (15 - 30 episodes per hour) apnea. If you're in the range these are far preferable to a CPAP.

I don't think there is such a thing.
