It's been years since I last touched digital signage players, so I'm looking for some advice on what is current and what you all like using these days. I've used brightsign in the past but I think even the LS423 is overkill in function and price.

They have a pretty basic setup - 3 1080p TVs in portrait mode displaying a slideshow of like 6 images that zoom slowly. Currently they are using a laptop per display hooked up via HDMI just running the windows lock screen in slideshow mode, but it's clunky and difficult for them to change, and the computers aren't made to run for months on end without being touched so occasionally need service. The TVs are commercial models that turn themselves on and off by a set schedule.

They'd like to continue the slideshow, and also have the option to run small videos occasionally.

Ideally they'd have a network-enabled player behind each TV that they can update the slideshow/video playlist over the network, preferably with a simple interface. If there are cheap options that will run off a USB drive/memory card that's fine too. They have power and network available behind each display. Hoping to keep the per-display device cost under $150.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Since nobody else wants to help you. Here you go.  I haven't touched one in years. As I recall, they were moderately priced, easy to connect, and fairly robust, if you have some graphic design chops, you could probably do some pretty cool stuff with one.

I appreciate the answer, but I was hoping to find a cheaper solution, since I believe the LS423 is the cheapest option from brightsign and it's still $250. I know there are dozens of $100 option on amazon etc, but I was hoping to find one that someone has had experience with.

A simple roku ultra player would do the trick...

Load a thumb drive with your media, play with the roku media player... done.

Control the rokus with the roku remotes, or on Pc, or app.

Heck, Use wifi enabled thumb drives and beam your content to the thumb drives. (Sandisk) makes them.

You could be running for about $140/ screen

My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

Thanks Tweety, I'd considered that but wasn't sure if they were power fault tolerant - can they be setup so that if power went off, they would resume operation when it restored?

Sounds like you would like to save a little money so that you get to spend more time maintaining it.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

You're looking at loading pics and setting them as a screen saver for this one... You get what you pay for

You are either going to have a fairly expensive stand alone box/system or a cheap player with a service.

You wanted cheap so :
[Link: sungale.com] is $99

OR get a raspberri pi and https://www.screenly.io/
