I think that we have an opportunity/obligation to help our customers recover from this mess.

Perhaps Integrators who have customers in the area should contact everyone and suggest that customers not power up anything that has suffered water damage and that they immediately have water damaged units flushed and checked over -- before applying power.

Clear water is not much of an issue as long as the unit was not powered while wet. Even dirty water is usually not a problem if the unit is promptly flushed. Salt water is the worst. Units with charged batteries are more likely to get into trouble, but even in this case, removal of the battery and prompt action is helpful.

If it is not practical for a user to immediately have a unit serviced and the unit has been thoroughly wet, a quick flush with clear water is helpful.

A backup generator or UPS can be a disadvantage because they will not go down with the power grid.

Users should (carefully) unplug anything that is or has been wet -- hopefully before the power grid comes up. This is one case where an early power grid failure and late restore can be helpful.

Also, it is a good idea to unplug everything from the power grid until it is stable because an unstable grid can introduce transients.

I've been through flooding on the commercial side. If you have insurance, it's best to get a written expert opinion that even if things dry out and work, they will be trouble down the road. Usually very frustrating and expensive trouble too. The insurance company will replace everything, and that is by far the best thing to do... assuming you are insured.
