Ive setup a system with the following spec :

Audio : 3x Sonos Connect, Sonance DSP 8-130 Amp, 3x zones of Sonance IS4s

Network : 4x Ubiquity UAP access points, Netgear POE Smart Switch, Draytek 2862 Router

Cloud streaming services eg. Spotify, Apple Music etc are working fine through the system, but we are having an issue with playing music "locally" from an iPhone / iPad, eg. using the iPhones / iPads onboard iTunes library which i beleive shows up in the Sonos dashboard as the "on device" libary, the first few songs play fine until, but after 5 - 10 minutes the connection drops out. Ive noticed that if i keep using the iPhone / iPad while the music is playing it seems to work fine, but when the device goes to sleep the music will stop soon after.

Has anyone else come across this before, is it a known issue and is there a way round it ?

What app version are you on? Sonos says 9.1 "should help".

I just read thru all the comments on that link.
SONOS says they might have a fix for that specific problem, in the latest patch that came out just a few days ago.

But what I find comical is all the people mad at SONOS on the issue, when it is very clearly an issue with the iDevice and how it handles going to sleep (specifically when the lock screen engages).
One guy says that leaving the screen unlocked is a huge security issue. LOL, in your own home while you are playing music. Guess he doesn't want his wife seeing those text from the bar whore.
Anyway, just thought it was kind of funny. Apple people, what can you do.

[edit]: This also reminds me of a guy that had an iPhone and I was trying to setup his CCTV app. He had his phone set to lock as soon as the screen went dark, which was set at like 5-10 seconds. He wouldn't give me his lock code, so I had to keep my finger on the display and moving almost constantly. WTF do these people think is going to happen? Someone is waiting to snatch their phone as soon as they blink? And hack it instantly?
I have my phone set to lock after 30 minutes of inactivity. Why would I need to have it any less? People are strange (I would use another word but...).

I have seen the issue on other streaming platforms... playing music off an iDevice is currently more annoying than it could be. I have the iOS 12 beta and that's not helped at all.
This industry is not getting cheaper and cheaper, we're simply convincing ourselves that we have to push the cheapest option to customers.

Would using the Airplay 2 streaming integration work better than using the Sonos app directly, presumably apple have paid more attention to how their iOS sleeps with Airplay 2.

I ran into this about 6-7 months ago.... I was using iOS 11 beta at the time. I submitted a bug report to Apple. I haven't tested it since. Running 12 beta now. Next time I'm around a Sonos system I'll test it.

....also make sure the songs on your phone are actually on your phone and your're not "streaming" them from iTunes.

While true, you can group any zone with a zone with one of the above mentioned units and it will work.
