I think I'd rather punch myself in the face over and over than deal with DirecTV these days. For you guys that have been using Dish, how have they been over the last year or so?
Thanks in advance

Love Dish. Even better once you get set up with the CI program.

Comcast CXI program has made us push for Comcast over DirecTV. I feel good inside when I pull a customer from them these days. I am at over a dozen at this point.

I think we may have signed up for dish network ci today at CEDIA.
It was nice to see the comy's CXI Program on the CEDIA floor... too bad I don't have them here in my area. Stuck with Cox (which has gone gown the tubes quality wise recently). And TWC Spectrum (which has gotten worse since Charter got em).

I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV. My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird. |

Just yanked Uverse and installed Comcast at a project today. Download went from 20 to 300. TV looks ten times better.

Eff dish and their CI program. What a crock of shit to try and get signed up with them. I’m going on one year (exactly) from when I signed up at cedia. I probably have close to 25hours tied up into trying to get signed up. At this point I have given up.

On a regular tv, I don't notice a pq difference. On my 106" it's quite poor. However, the features are nice, equipment is nice, DVR is the best of any provider IMHO. I haven't had any issues with them. DTV I hate everything about them. Company, equipment, interface, techs, EVERYTHING.

Thanks for the replies. I was about to go Michael Douglas Falling Down on them yesterday. Days of futility, ridiculous mistakes and missed timelines.
DirecTV...you are fired.

But just using the 800 number and signing up they have been much better to deal with than DTV. Their techs are probably on the same par as all service providers. But the customer service is simple and easy without a lot of pressure. If I want to turn channels on or off in my package, I do it from my account settings in the app.

18 or so years ago we were a DTV "retailer" just so we could have more control of our projects. Worked OK for a while.
When we moved to Oregon 7 years ago, rural home,I went with DTV because I knew how it worked.
After ATT bought DTV,things went downhill.
I recently UPGRADED to a dish hopper3 and 4 joeys.....what a difference!
I went from 3 DVR's to one (saving me about $30 a month) and the joeys operate just like a dvr so life is good!
Canceling DTV was an experience beyond belief! After 4 transfers I finally made it to the "used car salesman" department!
I finally told her that I sold the house, bought a boat, and was going to sail around the world and didn't need TV!!
That made her pause for a moment and I got it done!

Up until the last year or so I often steered clients towards Directv, basically stating as follows. "All tv service providers suck, Directv happens to suck the least".
After the most recent software/ GUI debacle, the Genie 2 tower of fail and my most recent installation experiences, I am withdrawing my statement of them sucking the least. I say this as a former installer and customer of almost 20 years now.
Only reasons I liked Directv was for the genie system (handy for secondary tv locations in non distributed video houses), fairly logical user interface and that their boxes had discrete power commands.
I just can't Dish Network. I had some extremely negative experiences as an installer for them back in the day and I still refuse to recommend their product.
Maybe time to revisit Tivo+cablecards? Have a job I am in the design phase on that the client is asking for Tivo on.

Take another look at dish. The hopper3 is everything the genie wants to be

And they have changed. I just can't Dish Network. I had some extremely negative experiences as an installer for them back in the day and I still refuse to recommend their product. You're stating that things with Dish used to be horrible, but you don't maintain the flexibility you had with your DirecTV opinion. The logic by which you eliminate DirecTV, fairly applied, would lead you to try Dish! Maybe time to revisit Tivo+cablecards? Have a job I am in the design phase on that the client is asking for Tivo on. Why might these be better, but not Dish? (I ask this as a DirecTV customer.)
