We just saw an error code on a new 55Q6 stating "A malicious process has been blocked. Do you want to send this malware file..." A quick Google search shows that a bunch of people are experiencing it on the Q6 and Q8 TVs. Has anyone here been seeing it on the Q7 sets? I think it might be a new software bug but I'm hoping the Q7 doesn't start showing this as we have a bunch out there.

Thanks

I have a habit of not connecting to wifi when I set up a TV.

I don’t think I have seen the need for a firmware upgrade yet, and I think I have avoided some other pitfalls.

Not a good idea. There are actually several firmware fixes that NEED to be applied to TVs. This has ranged from power issues, input issues, and many others. The latest Samsung firmware had a fix for HDR content displaying 'more' correctly (or better, depending on how you look at it).

Do all the firmware updates at installation. Then disconnect devices from the network, that are not going to be using it. In the case of needing IP control, you can block those devices from the WAN, still allowing local IP control on the LAN.
Every service call, check for firmware updates on all equipment. This just should be standard practice these days. Devices these days need to have their firmware or you run the risk of running into more problems than not. Whether you are aware of the issues or not.

Ya pick yer poison. If I had an HDMI 4 not wanting to work, I would upgrade the firmware. If I had discrete off not working, I would upgrade the firmware. If I don’t have a problem, then I may avoid another problem when I don’t connect to Wi-Fi. It’s all about avoiding problems. I know you will disagree. That is fine.

In the past, I would have not disagreed with you on avoiding new problems firmware might bring up. But in recent memory (last few years), I can't think of 1 situation where updating the firmware in a TV, bluray, or streaming box has caused an issue.
However, NOT updating HAS certainly caused issues.

With 4K in such a messy state, if you are NOT upgrading the TV firmware to the latest, you are doing your customer a huge disservice. You are most likely causing the TV NOT to able to decode things like Dolby Vision or HDR10+. Or have the correct LUT for SDR & HDR content.
It would be unforgivable to sell a customer a flagship model TV, then cripple its performance due to ignorance.

Nah, I’ve got that covered — only using Smart TVs 😜

UPDATE

The client had a FireTV stick plugged into a TV in another room. When this was removed, the error codes went away on the new TV.

This one's new to us.
