Our rep has been hinting about this for awhile but without giving any details.

It's a beam (sans speakers) and a connect amp mashed into one box. It will be very helpful for us. IR, better amp, and a higher price.

I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV.
My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

Getting even tougher to support Sonos with their obvious desire to take clients from under us.

They are now offering free installation. Which is why they want your clients email to sell to them directly.

I just had a client from about 2 years ago buy a play:1 from them and they sent someone out to install it for free (saved me a trip... Or so I thought). While there, he glanced at her home theater set up (KEF LS50s and Marantz SR5010 with mx890 and Sonos connect) and told her it was no good and she should get the Sonos Beam instead. Thinking it must just be something new, and it was cheap, she agreed.

I get a call Friday asking to help him install it over the phone because he had been there for 8 hours and couldn't figure it out.

Needless to say, I told her to tell him to take his product and leave and I would be over this week.

I get there and she is non stop apologetic, says she'll never "cheat" on us again. It was funny in the end, but a nightmare if Sonos keeps this up.

Sonos ranks right up there with Face Book.
I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's AV trouble, a man alone.

I just got done reading about the new SONOS AMP. I thought this was a nice upgrade to the decade+ old AMP till they got to the part about it being $100 more! WTF!

My guess is SONOS wants to stay relevant by charging more money than everyone else for things. Similar to the B&O and other boutique brand strategy.
I like SONOS and all but screw this.

My customers tend to be into more value. And myself as well to an extent. And with the disturbing knowledge of not only SONOS trying to take away sales but installation now as well, I am certainly pushing much harder towards HEOS or Bluesound.

I love the new CI friendly campaign they are gushing over now. Just remember as they are feeding you that sweet carrot, to look in the other hand at the big stick!!!

selling products and install direct they also sell packages of products which erodes margins further.

Im guessing the +$100 is double the power output, capacitive buttons and HDMI

As far as the IR, is that the horizontal window on the bottom front of the unit vs the back? Seems silly if designed for a rack/integrators being on the front.

What about a new connect version? Really no reason they can't build the same functionality, sans amp into a connect, including sub output and crossover. Should be able to use a connect for rear speakers in a surround as well via separate amp.
To me a connect version with all of these features should have come out before the AMP. Way more connects used in custom installs vs the connect:amp. Especially on larger installs. Makes me wonder if the connect is going away.

"The all-new Sonos Amp is twice as powerful (125WPC) as its predecessor, supports Apple’s AirPlay 2 and more than 100 streaming services, and includes an HDMI Arc port for TVs.

Launching globally in February 2019, the $599 Amp will be available to professional installers in the United States and Canada starting Dec. 1, 2018."

"early next year Sonos will partner with architectural audio leader Sonance to release a series of three such speakers, each one optimized to work with Sonos Amp and the Sonos platform."

says nothing about speakers included (beam?)

What’s most upsetting is that none of the traditional custom electronics and audio companies have come up with anything better. They try but dont come close. People are going to embrace Sonos because it works, regardless if the fact that margins are low. Sad to say, I feel like I do customers a disservice if I am providing them a Sonos alternative. I’ve vowed not to install anything other than Sonos for streaming music services. Other companies please come up with something better if you want to stay relevant.

So I just read Julie's article. I clearly don't understand what rack mounting means; in my world, it means that the unit comes with ears that can be attached or not, as required, and not buy a custom face plate. Julie, could you explain to me about this, please?

HEOS is a direct copy of most of the SONOS line (reason they got sued). The only thing SONOS has that HEOS doesn't is integration with Apple. For an Apple customer that is huge but for everyone else, it doesn't matter and HEOS is the same thing. HEOS even has some custom pieces SONOS does not have (HEOS actually came up with themselves instead of copying).

I really don't understand why HEOS doesn't support iTunes or Apple Music at this point? Is Apple refusing to license with HEOS for some reason? Anybody know?

Does Heos support Spotify inside their app or does it require you to use Spotify Connect? If not, it's pretty useless for my market as most customers in my area use Spotify or Apple Music. To have to shuffle through two apps to group rooms together or adjust relative volume levels is insane. It's a simple thing like this that makes Sonos way ahead of everyone else

Our company is moving quickly over to Musicast. It is built into our Yamaha receivers and will work with Elan, and sounds good.
