I have always felt that Julie and company were a bit of a gadfly to CEDIA and helped to keep them focused, now........

Being that none of them have any experience running a CI company, selling and installing integrated systems or managing clients, as far as I know, I never thought they were qualified for this task.
Civil War reenactment is LARPing for people with no imagination.

My personal "bigger" concern is the sale of CEPro to the CEDIA exhibition Company, I have always felt that Julie and company were a bit of a gadfly to CEDIA and helped to keep them focused, now........

And now that CEPro and CEDIA have common ownership......

Zektor should rent a parking lot near the show and have a cookout/product demo. Free jerky with every new dealer sign up.

That might be the answer!!

Snap did it in Denver and it worked out just fine for them. Id like to see many vendors do it. Show of force.

The parking lot idea:
You still would have to pay the city/county, event/exhibit license fees, pay the person who owns the lot rent on the space. Etc... Might still have to deal with unions depending on the city.

I mean; if cops get called on little kids for running lemonade stands... and mowing people's yards...
It is a very sad country we live in these days.

Since the MFGs showing are all in the same boat, why not start their own show? I'm sure Snap, Zector, Metra, regional disto's like Volutone etc... could all band together (they have to show together anyway) and put on a killer, focused show. For that matter, they could all form an association and probably do a better job of promoting it and us to the public....

All true, but part of the goal it to NOT give money to who gets it now.

When has CEDIA not been a joke? Isn't that an easier question to ask?

I guess they never found the right angle on educating consumers, ever.

I believe Lifeware did it in Denver once two. So I’d say the idea has a 50/50 success

Several companies have done the off site thing. Many have done this it at CES as well, and still do so. As the cost continue to ramp up, it just make sense.

The main issue is that unless the word gets out, or it's in a very public area where it will gain attention, getting new faces is the main problem.

Remember when some of the big names pulled out of CES and set up their own places in various hotel ballrooms? It worked because they just got the word out.

While the EXPO is a great idea, I think there has been a total lack of good management and direction. Sadly it's just not nearly playing out as it should, or could.

Spending millions fighting with Noel Lee over the right to use a stupid name was one of the glaring idiocies.

I felt my $500.00 a year was worthwhile way back. Oh, what it could have been.

I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV.
My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

Oh, what it could have been.

Back in the 90's I always dreamed of going but couldn't fit it into the schedule.

Finally made it to Indy and had a great time meeting people in the industry but I don't think the trip was cost effective from a business prospective.

I learned more from the manufacturers regional trainings overall.

I did make it to Denver but only because I was working on a large retro job in Cherry Hills Village, had a free pass, and scheduled a couple extra days for the show while I was in town.

The experience was similar to Indy.
Glad I went but happy that I didn't have to pay for the flight and room(again from a business prospective).

The sad part-28 years of CEDIA and I've never met one client that had ever even heard of it but almost everyone had heard of CES!
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!

Proud to say that my property is protected by a high speed wireless device!

If only there had been some quality management that had a sense of direction.

Instead of spending millions in a pissing contest with Noel Lee, would it not have been better to spent millions promoting CEDIA, so the average person would know that a CEDIA certification meant you were getting the best of the best.
