You know, you think about it a bit, there's not a whole lot about motors and gears that has made any technological leaps since the .... fifties, probably!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Remove motor, go to local motor repair shop, motor gets fixed, install motor.

Done.

If you've done this before and it was that easy, I'd be interested to know...

I've installed quite a few of the Activated Design/Auton lifts and the "motor" is sealed inside a linear actuator and the linear actuator is fabricated into the lifting mechanism.  I've never had one fail so haven't had to attempt a repair, but being familiar with the product, it sure doesn't look that easy to me.

We have a local vacuum cleaner/pool supply place that rebuilds pool motors. Prob pretty straightforward.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

We had one fail from shipping damages bending the list and getting stuck. They had us remove it and only send back the working parts because they didn't even want it back. So I'd say you are correct
