Anyone else notice that if you hard wire more than one Sonos device to this POS gateway that it crashes?

I've run across it a couple times now, but surprised I don't see anything about it.

I can't seem to find the Sonos compatibility chart anymore either.

Isn't the general rule of thumb that you should only hardwire one Sonos product?

I've been told not to hard wire any of them by Sonos tech support.

Are all of your Sonos players wired to the network? If so, then turn off the radios in the sonos players. There's lots of info on the interwebs on how to do this.

If you have a mix of wired and wireless, then the easiest way to make the system work is to use a boost. Wire the boost to the network, leave the rest wireless.

You can play with mixing radios on and off with wired and wireless units but it's trial/error/PIA.

While I haven't encountered a Comcast Gateway that touted Gigabit speeds, I haven't had any trouble with network loops. I don't know if special Gateways are used for Gigabit. I have installed Gateways recently mailed to customers for self install. None of them has been labeled as DOCSIS 3.0 or 3.1.

I wire as many SONOS units as practical and I may run a few wireless. I know some installers seem "always" to have trouble, I'm at the other end of the spectrum at "never". I've never turned OFF a radio.

I do pay attention if there is a managed switch: Enable STP, not RSTP. Jumbo frames are not welcome.

At Sonos training last week - Sonos head tech said that SOME phone techs with OLDER information would recommend wireless. But the company line is that wired is best. Preexisting network anomalies might cause issues when players are wired - and a fast, easy solution to a hard to track network problem is to go wireless. So some techs take the easy way out and tell you to ditch the wired connection.

I've wired every device I could on every Sonos install I've done - many with Comcast/Xfinity gateways. I've never had to forgo a wired connection for wireless. That might help answer the "rule of thumb" question. Sorry OP, I have no answer for the Comcast gigabit gateway question.

As mentioned above did you disable the wireless in each of the sonos's, except maybe 1? Otherwise you are probably experiencing a loop and crashing the router.

Its not that gateway. I have several houses using that now with sonos in play.

Sonos recommends only one device being hard wired because thats the easiest way to insure no network loops are created. Sonos devices when plugged in start looking for each other. once they establish the Sonos net wireless they dont give it up easily.

If you're installing multiple Sonos boxes, Wire only one, or Go into the network config and disable the wireless.

I attended one of those training's and the strong suggestion was "use that radio shutdown trick at your own risk, not recommended." And, as I mentioned above, I've never needed it.

I understand why some installers are upset about some WiFi band "chatter" that is not necessary in a wired system. Now that the SONOS controllers are mostly EOL, SonosNet is not required. With proper management, one could carefully turn OFF some radios. Unfortunately, I stress to my customers that the powered speakers can be moved around as needed. This is painless when SonosNet is working. If some areas are blacked out, I'll start getting calls that will be difficult to manage remotely.
