I think it depends on your market. I Havnt had a single billionaire client ever even mentioning looking for a custom av company online. Perhaps a client rep or assistant might. But if they are good they are more clued in than that. Even in the regular millionaire market it’s usually a referral while playing golf versus an internet search. I would think in the sub millionaire level then the internet search would be a key way of finding someone.

I think a nice website is always a good idea and definitely worth the investment. Referral business or not. It just simply is part of a professional business. Like insurance. You should have it

I feel the same way about a good website. I feel like it legitimizes a business or at least helps. Another thing that drives me insane is people that use free email service for business, without at least using their own domain name. Nothing turns me off more then [email protected]

Me too.  When I see an email like that, the first thing I think is...Definitely not emailing him.

I’m currently working with a billionaire client and his assistant found my website. I proved my self on a small “fix” that took other guys 8 trips and couldn’t get it right. Between two properties he’s doing back to back could pay for the site 100x over. Every call he makes is to add more.

It does depend on your market. I agree a lot of it is referrals but I’m finding more and more people are researching their referrals. If your in a competitive market you have no choice but to set your self apart.

AGREED. Nothing de-legitimizes a business more than that!

No, I'm saying: Of course all your business is coming from referrals. Because you don't do marketing.

If you did marketing, maybe some business would come from ... marketing.

...and I’m saying, “what?”

Tom, she's is making sense. Julie is saying if you dont do any marketing, then obviously all your biz IS from referrals. You are not marketing so the only way you get biz is referral/word of mouth. Thus, if you DID do marketing, then its likely possible you would also get business from marketing.

You better make sure you NEVER move away from your one horse town. You will be in for a mighty rude awakening.

First, I dont live an a one horse town, there are three horses here! :)

Second, there would be no awakening. Regardless of where I did business, I would have the same success. Granted, I dont have east coast liberals to deal with lol. I would simply move if that was the case. lol. No joke.

Has nothing to do with politics. Has to do with competition. Feels like a damn near 1:1 ratio of AV companies to clients these days. Add in the electricians that will offer some of our services, the IT guy, the interior desecrator bringing in her pot head kid brother to wire up some killer Koss speakers....A media precense is something you need in a saturated market. You may go a while with jobs strictly from word of mouth, but sooner or later the well runs dry for a bit and you need something else to bring in work.

Is this some sort of inductive reasoning or just stating the utterly obvious?
