I have a client that has 4 doors that they would like to add Ring Doorbells to.  2 have existing doorbells that work, 1 has existing doorbell wiring that does not work, and one is a new door with no wiring.  I know that the Video Doorbell 2 is battery powered and the Video Doorbell Pro is hardwired.  They look different though.  Client would like to keep them the same, however running wires will be difficult.  This is an OLD house converted to a commercial space.  Question is, would going with the Doorbell 2 everywhere make more sense for this purpose?  I believe they have their own wireless chimes that we could add.  Can you add more than one of these chimes to cover the entire house?

Also, is there a limit to how many Ring devices can connect to their app?  I tried finding all these answers on their website but didn't find the info and I was placed in a rather long queue when calling to ask.

On the door with wiring that does not work. Have you checked the chime and transformer?

I dont think there's a limit. If there is, its high.

Video Doorbell2(And original for that matter) can be hard line powered and it is highly recommended. At least the new ones have swappable batteries instead of having to bring the whole unit in to charge.

I would still use the Elites where you can. Significantly better unit and looks very professional. Its not like your looking at them side by side on a house/building.

I have not yet.  But I have to be prepared that I will have to forego the wiring and go with a battery option.  I know they have a solar option as well as an add-on.  Anyone have experience with that?

I remember the original units (I think they were original, clients provided them and I installed a while back) having the option of battery or hardwire.  When I look at the specs on their site, it says specifically hardwire or battery power for each unit.  None of them say it will do both in the specs which is misleading if what you are saying is true.

no, I have an original outside my front door. It comes with the battery. but you can hardwire it and then you dont have to charge it.

the very first "tech spec" on the video doorbell 2 is

Power: Battery / Hardwired (8-24v AC)

That's good to know. I have to pull up the spec page I looked at. It clearly showed battery only for the doorbell 2

Ok, I see what I did when I looked at the specs.  I looked at the page with all 4 doorbell models where it doesn't show full specs.  It is misleading for sure, but I should have clicked to pull up a full spec line on each model.

I have an original battery powered at my front door. Supposedly needs a charge every 6 months. Well, try every 1-3 months. You want to multiply that by 4? Don’t do it for a client. Not a happy client once they are messing with that every few weeks.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

I was planning to add the solar kit to any battery powered units

Why not just fish to the closest electrical out let and plug in transformer?

Dear Oprah,
We often miss obvious things. That said, he probably scoped that out first.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

The EFF says Ring is grabbing your info. Not sure what info yet. [Link: eff.org]

Ring has received lots of negative headlines lately, but most people don't care.

There are other options, but not sure how well the others compare.
