I'm beginning to think that I shouldn't have replied/posted at this point.
It seemed like a good idea at the time......

Sorry for the drama

First reply was "here are the latest codes" which linked to the last codes I had posted here myself. I replied that those are NOT the latest codes and mentioned that I had found more. Why should I share my codes that took many hours of effort to obtain when others never reciprocate and in fact make money on them? Rather than a simple thank you when I posted the first batch, the response was, "is that all you've got".

I'm not in the CI business, yet have shared thousands of codes to benefit everyone, even professionals. However, in the past year or so I'm thanked mostly with insults and condescension.  Since my code sharing has proven to be entirely a one way street on this board, my motivation is at an all time low. If those asking for the codes had ever shared any themselves or showed even an ounce of gratitude, then I'd be more inclined to share mine.

I'd like to that the last few posters for proving my point.

What is wrong with you? This isn’t the IR Code forum, it’s the CI forum. That means a lot of different issues are discussed. Just because someone hasn’t posted IR codes doesn’t mean they haven’t given tons of help in the past. Maybe I’m partial due to recent events, but this is the most helpful group I’ve encountered on the internet. And i mean helpful on much bigger levels than just some IR codes and technical answers. I was recently left speechless at how helpful this group is.

Next time if you aren’t willing to help, just don’t reply.

I had absolutely no control over someone reposting my codes in the wrong (CI) forum.

In any case, message received loud and clear.

It wasn’t the wrong forum. That’s what you still fail to grasp. Help here comes in many forms, besides just posting codes. The only error was your attitude.

I would like to thank mdavej for his sharing of codes on RC over the years. I have never used any of his codes he has posted (that I'm aware of) but I know many, many other people have. It most certainly took him a bit of time to come up with all the codes he has shared. Time that others did not do; and thanks to him, did not have to waste many hours doing.
I think it important to point out, he did not have to share all the code sets he has done over the years. He could have kept his hard work all to himself but he chose to share that information, of his own free will.

There seems to be a serious problem these days with something called 'self entitlement'. I would ask those posting in this thread to look back and re-read your comments with that in mind.
I did not see him asked to be praised for anything he has done. But certainly it is not out of the question to show a little gratitude, it is just common courtesy.

As far as his asking if someone else had posted any codes - that seemed to be in a snarky way... I'm only guessing here: but I would be wiling to bet he has had a situation recently (not on the forums or maybe was), that he needed help with and no one bothered. For someone who always helps others and then been ignored any help yourself, certainly can leave you with a bad disposition to not want to help any others for awhile.

I've posted tutorials, reprogrammed complete files, physically fixed remotes for people from the forum. I've posted fixes, recommendations, and even some codes. Mdavej has never thanked me. What's up with that. I will just not post help anymore I guess.

My thanks to MDaveJ for all his hard work.

I cannot honestly say that I was aware that I was using his codes, until this thread came up. But I did create a far better URC device than the URC database allowed me to. That is why I am offering my thanks now.

It is pretty easy to run into attitude problems on a forum, and problems escalate quickly. Just as Brad said, I would urge a couple of you to re-read your posts and maybe ramp it down just a bit. If we consider the fact that we’re here to help each other, maybe some of the foolish stuff can be minimized.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

The comments are reactionary, not accusatory. Had he simply posted or just stayed out of the thread if he felt slighted, no issues. He remark to Tony Golden was snarky and not warranted. As I've said, I've helped many, many of whom never even returned to post anything whatsoever. Oh well. I get the sting after helping and not getting a simple thanks, but I simply sit back and don't engage for a while. No need to just stop helping altogether. No need to post anything saying thank me or I'm out. I think we all appreciate anyone that takes the time to help, but if you are doing it solely for recognition then you will feel slighted. I don't discount his efforts in posting, but do question why be snarky when a simple question was asked by Tony. I don't think the question asked was anything but a legitimate question asking where the link to the codes mentioned was.

Sorry, but Mdavej is the one that started with the bad attitude and rudeness. If he didn’t want to share any more of his work, then the proper thing to do would have been to not even comment at all. Or, politely explained why he doesn’t want to post codes any more. But he jumped down Pilgram’s throat when a reasonable request was made, based on his own history of sharing codes. On top of that, his opinion that no one else has provided help because they didn’t do it the same way he did is an insult to everyone here that does share their knowledge.

I get the sting after helping and not getting a simple thanks,

I don't understand this. If someone uses my help and I get no thanks, it's no skin off my nose. I offered my help and my part of the transaction is done. My emotional well-being does not depend on attaboys.

Try this approach: Post because you want to help. Post to help now. Write in a way that offers help to others in the future. You know, enough details to understand just from the post, say, six months from now when the present conversation is forgotten. (That's why there's often repetition in what I write.)

but I simply sit back and don't engage for a while. No need to just stop helping altogether. No need to post anything saying thank me or I'm out.

That last sentence is good. The first sentence is just a liiittttle bit snow-flakey.

As my engineer dad used to say with a grin, illegitimi non carborundum. That's fake latin for "don't let the bastards wear you down."
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
