I believe that neither Snap or J+P products support 4K HDR60 4:4:4 so I'm sticking to Crestron DM for the time being...

Big demand for this? What sources are you using for these systems?

Have you ever looked at a display and said, jeez, this is only 4.4.2, 4.4.4 would look way better.

Not trying to be a smart ass, it just seems like one of those specs that the average user will never notice. Am I ignorant?

Not at all, that's just reality. Not one customer of mine cares about it.

I'd say I only have one that it would matter, but he uses all local devices in his theater, so it doesn't really matter anyway.

Look at the specs of this product, underwhelming to say the least... HDR 8 bit and HDMI bandwidth @ 8.91 Gbps. This is a low end product at best.

Can you help me get some context on this statement.

What are the stats on JAP?

What stats are currently seen with traditional HDMI?

Does Crestron have HDMI 2.1 or displayport available in their DM units? Seeing as 4K60 HDR at 4:4:4 is 22 gbps, HDMI 2.0 ain't going to cut it.

Reading the specs on their DMC-4KZ-HD it doesn't support it, unless you want 8 bit HDR.

The only source (I can think of) that would output that native would be a PC.

Unless it's changed, JAP won't do 4K60 HDR even at 4:2:0. That can be a problem for people with consoles that can output that.

Yup, thats a GREAT thing. Dealers love that.

Whats the scenario when 6 months later, someone wants to add a source or display? Does the whole driver need redone or is it an easy task? Not asking to be snide, asking because I wanted to know how that's done.

When designing systems we recommend to always to leave a few ports extra for inputs and outputs. This makes it easy to add parts later so nothing has to be reprogrammed. Also if you think the system will expand on a much larger scale then we recommend using stackable switches right at the start.

If there is any chance at all of the system expanding later, you order a switch larger than needed and have Blackwire configure the extra ports for the potential displays and sources. Then when you need to add a source or display, you just order the receiver or transmitter.

Black wire doesn’t rewrite the driver each time for customers. The drivers are already built to allow for expanding a system. In Elan all I have to do is name the new zone or source. Actually, the source names itself when I assign the source driver.

We have drivers for URC which allow you to do any sized stacked system as URC is capped at 32x32 with their module. These are custom made to match your configuration.

We also have a Savant profile tool that creates a matching profile.

We offer things like Control4 OSD Volume drivers, video wall icon sets and commercial audio drivers that are all free with your J+P purchase.

IMO, and I’m sorry Kevin if this rubs you the wrong way (it is not intended to) I think the fact that Blackwire touts, designs and even configures JAP has caused a lot of confusion and the thought that it’s more complicated then it really is. Don’t get me wrong, it’s convienent and nice to have one thing taken care of but designing and deploying JAP is one of the easiest things in this industry. And if you can’t figure out how to deploy it; I’m sorry; but you don’t belong in this industry.

I understand why they offer it, but it just seems like it’s also scared a lot of people away. They do it for good customer service and it’s awesome the offer the support they do, I just have never said “gee I wish I had this all done for me” out of everything we do, JAP has been the most reliable, consistent and downright easiest thing to get up and running on a job.

I am interested to see the MOIP product. I can’t say it’s priced that differently from JAP and have really no interest in switching for now, but there are a few features I see that I like.

The configuration is only part of what we offer. Ensuring you have a proper system design from the start is the first step we do. The programming is designed to save time and make things plug and play. This allows dealers to send almost any level tech to a job site to do an installation. I appreciate your opinion how ever I disagree that it scares people away. Managed switches scare a lot of people and when you take all the scary stuff away and make it super easy it brings more people into the mix. We are happy to even log into your computer and walk you through JAD config if you want to do it yourself.

We pride our selves on the fact that you can you email at 8 PM on a Friday and get a reply with in a few minutes for questions not only on your video system but the actual automation platform you are using as well. From start to finish you have someone who is reliable to design your system and not just sell you the most expensive parts, program it and ensure you have all of the tools, modules and add ons to have a successful installation.

Well that was just about brain dead easy to get up and running and programmed into my commandfusion remote.

My existing SMC switch really isn't up to the task but it's working

Don't ask for my opinion on PQ. I only have a 60" @ 1080p and my eyes are going to shit.

The hardest part was enabling Jumbo Frames and then going through my other equipment on the network that threw a hissy fit about it to alter settings.

We are a JAP dealer. We are always looking for new technology. The thing that looks like a major issue for us is that it seems the Snap product does not convert audio to 2 channel stereo. We never do a job without at least 1 surround sound zone, and usually 2 or 3. JAP allows us to break out the audio and send it to the audio matrix for stereo rooms. JAP also has lip sync control which we use all the time. Without these features, the Snap product would not work for us.
