Did anyone else see the announcements about the Snap AV video over IP products.  I wasn't even aware they were working on products for the category...

Wonder how this will impact the established players in this field like JAP?

Did anyone participate in beta testing and if so are you allowed to share details now that the products have been released?

Got the notice and I am curious as to the same questions as well. Hopefully someone got to play with this and has some feedback. Looks real interesting.

I think I remember seeing non-functioning "prototype" product in their CEDIA booth in 2016.

Can't wait to see it in person. I hate the term "visually lossless". J+P uses that, and the picture quality degradation on large screens is easily seen.

If it's an equal to J+P, then I think J+P will be in serious trouble, at least in the residential market.

I wondered if they had anything displayed at CEDIA.  I was stuck in meetings & training most of the time and only spent about 4-6 hours on the floor over the 4 days I was there so never stopped in their booth.

I can tell you they have been working on it for at least 3 years, I believe I went to their facility in Charlotte in 2015 and they had functional prototypes. Back then I don't think they had anything to do with OVRC, which is likely why bringing them to market has taken so long.

seems very interesting.. setup looks stupid easy as well. Text overlay is cool, would be good for sports bars.
Anyone know if they have plans to add IP camera feeds to the system as a source or maybe even website URLs to be displayed as a source?

I haven't used their switches in quite a while.  Anyone know if you have to use them and how the reliability has been?

Any gigabit switch that supports IGMP snooping should work. I'm sure they would prefer that you use their Araknis line, which from my experience has been solid.

I don't think JAP is going to be to worried about this. Remember Snap is not the 1st to come to market with another HDMI over IP solution. In fact they are kind of late as there are at least 5 other brands I can think of right off the top of my head.
JAP still seems to be the most full featured, with every kind of bell & whistle you could want or need. That also makes them the most expensive.
So if you need an HDMI over IP solution, it really depends on what features you need and at what price. And who you have access to.

Look at the specs of this product, underwhelming to say the least... HDR 8 bit and HDMI bandwidth @ 8.91 Gbps. This is a low end product at best.

I haven’t seen the prices on the snap solution, but from the way they talked about 3 years ago the price was to be “similar to competitors prices”. JAP is a proven solution. Why would anyone experiment with another solution if it’s not significantly cheaper?

My guess is that many Snap dealers are not familiar with JAP.  Others might find the setup easier with OVRC built in.  Some of the features in the video on their site do look pretty nice, I will say.  Whether it sells well, only time will tell, and only Snap will know really.

I looked at the pricing and it seems identical to J + P so yeah, why try an unproven line unless it is a significant price differential
