New install of all new equipment and wiring including 18gb HDMI cables. I have no problems with the Dish Hopper or the Sony 4k BD Player they display thru the Marantz receiver to the LG display, no issues. The two HikVision NVR’s just aren’t happy. I get the loading splash screen, but they won’t go to the camera feeds. Both units act the same way.

Take note of this oddity: if I install an additional tv on the second HDMI output of the Marantz, turn “everything “ off and back on all goes smoothly and the cameras will display on BOTH display devices?! I’m able to switch back and forth to any of the sources and back to the cameras without issue on either tv. As soon as the “extra” tv is removed... the cameras stop working!

I came across the Ethereal HDM-EDIDB edid blocker for use with camera NVR / DVR’s in “multi display jobs”. Hoping Brent will chime in with confirmation of this being my best hope. If it weren’t for the discription... “security NVR’s work well with one display, but are a headache with multiple displays”, I would say it’s the obvious choice; but the wording gives me pause as I only have the one display.

I’m not the security camera installer! I did everything else, but he is throwing his hands up on what the problem or the fix is. Any help or insight is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Have you tried bypassing the AVR and running video directly to display? Have you tried adjusting output resolution of DVR? I have not had any issues running Hik Vision products through AVR's or Matrix Switches.

Here I yam (George Hamilton Zorro Joke).
First thing: What resolution is the DVR/NVR set at (most AVR's will not pass PC resolutions).
If that does not work call me (please).

Yes it seems happy direct to a tv. I still don’t get why the thing will work thru the receiver if I hang an additional monitor on it’s hdmi 2 output. It will even send it out the zone 2 HDMI. I asked the camera guy to set it to 1080p. I did not verify that he actually did. I’ll check that out first Monday. Encouraging that you have them working this way in the field.

Thanks

The resolution was the first thing I thought of... I asked the security guy to set it to 1080p. I did not verify that he actually did! I’ll check that out if I can get into the thing.

I’ll call you when I’m on site. If I can’t get it to fly.

Why does the EDIDB and the JRPLUS seem to be made backwards? The male end is labeled DISPLAY ... it would seem to me that this end would be the one plugging into the device so it would be on the output of the NVR, not hanging out of the Surround Receiver.

Uh, HDMI cables have two male ends, or did you mean 'send vs receive'? The Display end DOES need to go to the AVR if it's coming from the DVR/NVR. Also, it's not "hanging out of", it's 'plugged into'- 'hanging out of' kind of implies that the signal leaves the AVR and goes somewhere else, but it doesn't.

Did the HDMI cable need to be active because it's extremely long, or is it "what was in stock'? If you didn't provide it, did you try a different cable?

Actually Cables are Female. The plug in the hardware is the male terminal.

Go to metrahometheater.com and look at the two models I mentioned... all will be revealed

Yes, Stupid HDMI. They copied the USB terminal and put the male terminal on the hardware and the female terminal on the cable.

Hell, our packaging said Male to Male. could not convince them to change it, i was told changing it would only confuse people (i am sure that they were right).

Well, THAT's just counter-intuitive. The plug enters a recessed jack, yet it's female. What is this World coming to?

Archie Bunker used to refer to that as 'Morphodite'- "Too much of bot' and not enough of neither".

Since we both thought the same end was male, and there's nothing wrong with that, the Display end would have to go to the input of the device.

Why? WHY? WHY?????? did the industry let HDMI go this far?
