Anyone familiar with the Devialet Gold Speakers? They have a built in amp that they claim is 1400/w. A client is asking about them.

Funky looking, heavy on the marketing... pretty amazing packaging.
The networking side is beyond rubbish.
The Bluetooth is good.
Stereo paired with two speakers they're certainly better than the mono configuration. But at the money you'd get better performance from a traditional amp and speakers.
If it ever breaks it's going back to France as they're a non-dealer / importer serviceable piece of kit.
The stands that hold them in a cradle cost a bomb.

I see them as sitting somewhere around the Bose / Sonos part of the audio market.
Will they be around in 5 years time? That's the question...
This industry is not getting cheaper and cheaper, we're simply convincing ourselves that we have to push the cheapest option to customers.

So this is the 2018 equivalent of the old B&O wall mount CD/Tuner systems. The bookshelf system of our time. I'm not a fan but sell it to him if he likes it.

I think they are fantastic. They sound great for their size. Stupid easy for people to use. Architecturally unique.

Yes, you can get an amplifier/source/speaker combo for the same amount of money that sounds better. They are not for that client.

I sat in the CEDIA 2016 booth for about a total of 45 minutes over the three days watching them demo to people. All the geek integrators walked right on by or turned their noses up. All of their wives/girlfriends/escorts were loving it, dancing, smiling, etc.

I saw their speakers at the Rocky Mountain HiFi show a few years back. A lot more low end than I was expecting. Cool in a weird way.

The Devialet Ensemble (which is one of their pizza box amps paired with a pair of Atohm’s GT1 bookshelf speakers) is still the best sound I've ever heard from bookshelf speakers. They have a technology called SAM (speaker active matching) that makes for some truly impressive sound. So these people obviously know what they are doing.
I've just never liked the looks of the phantom speaker but it does move a lot of air. l feel like it's hard to sell a lot of $6k + amps so they brought out the phantom which is more unique in the market.

You saw a woman at CEDIA who wasn't working in a booth?
