Just Add Power. Thoughts? Good, Bad, and the Ugly

Looking to spec on a residential job with 4K distribution. Prefer another IP based video distribution system? TIA

When proposing an 8x8 setup recently I put JAP 3G against AV/Proconnect-edge and both came in at about 20k with labor. JAP was about 1k more. Both are able to strip audio, down res to legacy displays, work over Cat5, and are very controllable (C4 in this instance). The scalability is what really sets JAP apart. AVP offers Cloud9 but that goes to a whole different level of cost.

Wouldnt it be nice if someone came out with a MoIP that didnt require various TX and RX, just one sku for each? One shoe fits all. One price.

Its called a transceiver, which does both Rx and Tx.

Aurora Multimedia is the only one I know of that has such sku. Doubt there are any drivers available for the residential control systems.

No. I would rather not pay for things we don't need on one end or the other.

Crestron NV 350 and 351 is one sku. You log into it and configure it as a decoder or encoder. HDMI pass through and/ 1x2 switch.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

Thanks for the input. I'm pricing it versus and Crestron DM system and the JAP is about half as much.

My only issue with it is image quality. For the average, day in and day out used TVs around the house, it’s good enough. For any place with a large screen or a really high-end TV, it’s clearly not as good as HD base T.

You guys should check out Videostorm Netplay. More included features than J+p and comes out a lot cheaper.

Pic quality is as good as HDMI/HDBT. 4K options are available now.

Those zones for us typically have surround sound processor/amps located locally so we just put the 4k sources there.

I have seen MANY of these video over IP systems. Some do better than others and most of them will work fine for 90-95% (complete pulling #'s out of my arse estimate) of people for their use.
But you DO lose picture quality. So for that small % of people wanting to retain the best picture quality, this is not the correct solution.

Just because the vast majority of people have such low standards, doesn't mean everyone does.

actually the picture quality from VS has always been great. I wouldn't call the gear reliable( original and 2nd gen always seemed to need reboots) but very flexible and very good PQ.
