I installed the blu ray, updated an mx-880. Codes work directly from remote IR. Struggled to find location for mrf-350 emitter. I've had success with a trc-1080/mrx- emitter ....

Emitters are set to "all" and light up like a christmas tree. Gave up. Any ideas?

You seem to imply that you succeeded, except here you are writing about it. Did you find a place that works for some codes but not others? None at all?

btw: Sensors are all set to "all" Gave up. Any ideas?

Why do you have sensors in an RF system? Or are you one of those guys who describes things that emit light as "eyes"?

I mean, seriously. But seriously, do all commands on all other equipment (please mention for the hell of it) work all the time? Is the MRF-350 set to Zero? What's it set to?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Ernie,

I updated the info for terminology after your responses. Please check. Sensors are now called emitters.

System is fine. 10 years in use. Just replaced an old blu ray.
ir directly from remote - fine.
emitter through mrf-350 not working - can't locate ir sensor on blu ray. Seems elementary but couldn't resolve on site.

Hoping someone can relate

There is an IR symbol on the disc flip down door, to the far right (next to the eject button). Sony uses those to indicate where the IR sensor is on equipment.

I'm controlling mine with direct IR right now, so I don't have an emitter stuck to it. And I just shined a bright flashlight around the area and unlike most every component out there, I can not see a slightly opaque window anywhere (indicating the exact location).
But that has to be where the sensor is. Behind the door, which is that slightly purple opaque color.

So you either can put the emitter on the disc flip down door. Or take the unit apart and embed the IR emitter.

Have done IR directly between eject and power on these without issue though the IR label is to the left of the eject button.

Just another example of why I want an IR jack on the rear of EVERY piece of AV equipment.

The last time I controlled one with an emitter, I had to go under the flip-down door, far right side. It looked kind of stupid (because the door would not close), but it was in a cabinet so....

It wouldn't work stuck to the outside of the flip down door? When I shined a flashlight on it last night, the door is made of that dark purplish opaque (to IR) material. IR should pass thru.

For $250 more (double the price) you can have an IR jack on the back. Plus an RS232 connector, analog audio out, and detachable power cord.  :)

Thanks. Usually i can get it by moving the emitter enough. I'll go under the door and hope for the best.

Open that bad boy up and put the emitter inside! Much cleaner anyways.

Right in the center of the rocker button. Stupid. But its not the most stupid thing I have seen by far, so it has not been an issue.

You guys got me curious since there was conflicting info.

I can say for 100% that Audiophiliac is correct. The IR sensor is dead center above the USB port, right in between the power & eject button. No where near where Sony put their IR logo.

Anyway, those calling to put the emitter inside.... you better think that one thru a little more. This was NOT an easy pop apart and throw it in. Took me awhile to figure out how to take it apart and get it back together (broke several clips along the way).
You start by removing the 2 black screws on the back, for the side panels. Those slide back then come off. Then you can remove the 2 screws on the sides, securing the top on. The top has to slide forward then off - this is kind of tough and where I broke some tabs. Then you have to remove dozens of silver screws to take the metal cage/top off. Then remove 3 black screws on top holding the front panel, then 3 black screws along the bottom, and 2 black screws on the sides. "THEN" before you unsnap the front panel off, you have to disconnect the gold/white ribbon cable from the main board; that goes with the front panel when you pull it off (no slack).
Finally, remove 4 screws holding the front control board inside of the front panel to get where the IR sensor is.
I just did this and was frustrated by how much I had to do for a simple bluray player. I might have forgot about a few screws.

Point is, it can be done but it is NOT the easy pop open a lot of other players are.

He just said there is an MX-880 with a MRF-350. Now where exactly is the IP control going to come from.

Won't help you with this job, but we try to stay away from this model and only sell the X1000ES. IR and RS232 jacks on the back of the unit.
