Am having great difficulty learning codes coming from a zone 2 enabled remote (RAV248) for a Yam RXV650, to control the second zone from a remote keypad. have tryed Niles & Russound pads. Any info on what type of codes or if they are single or double command string would be greatly appreciated. Everything works 100% on a single zone reciever...

I've never had a problem (not even once!) learning Yamaha codes... OK, once, but it was a receiver from 1982 or something... Try all the obvious things... New batteries, move closer/further away, move away from flourescent or halogen lights, press longer/shorter... I'm sure you'll figure it out...

Good luck,

Norm

Hey Norm, cheers for the reply; The keypads(S) i have used both learn any Yamaha codes no problemmo, EXCEPT for the second zone commands for the new 650. The remote is enabled for second zone control (after you turn on the zone 2 amp) by pressing code set and then entering a yamaha specific number. Then you control zone 2 functions by first pressing the zone two button, which then puts the remote into '2nd zone mode' for ten odd seconds. nothing is emmitted, it just switches the remote to a different codeset - standard issue stuff..... What is this codeset, and why cant i learn it???

If I read your question right, you need to first press (is it up arrow?) to get to 'zone2', then press the desired input button. The code that is emitted will be for zone 2 only. If you wait too long (as you have already pointed out) it will revert to zone 1 control again.
Another plus is that when you change the remote to a zone 2 capable remote, the 'system power' and 'standby' commands change to discrete zone power commands, instead of master power commands (turn on/off both zones) that come with the remote before you change it over.
This all is from my memory working with the 1500 and 2500 remotes, but should be cross-compatible to the 650... I hope...

Good Luck,
Norm
