True, but you can tell them that you won't touch it with a ten-foot pole because it won't work properly and your fine reputation will be on the line.

I kind of agree with both of you.

Some decisions like "do I want to play videogames on Nintendo, Sony or MS?" should be left up to the client and it is our job to integrate their choice.

but for others I would be a bit more diplomatic than David and tell them that I don't have the expertise needed to implement their decision and if they want tio go with it they should hire the person that recommended it.

Maybe the product is great for the job, but we will be stuck doing extra research to try and make it work, we will be stuck supporting it and that is a problem if it is crap and it is our reputation that will take a hit if it is not up to our standards. Plus my "expertise" is expensive if it is useless to the client then he is way overpaying for it and so it is better for both of us if he goes elsewhere.
