Has anyone else been notified that you are now going to have to start pushing AT&T cell phones on top of DTV service?

I have been contracted with DTV as an individual installer that I would do for my clients only. Was not ever going to do DTV installs daily. Was just to keep their hackers out of my systems. Now being told that I have to do quarterly activations and start selling cell phones. NOT MY BUSINESS MODEL AT&T!

Time to look at Dish Network. Have seen DTV going downhill ever since AT&T purchased.

I was told the same thing.  I was one of the last remaining Non-Program accounts and just got the axe.  Was told that I could sign back up, but they want a minimum of three new account activations a quarter, plus push the mobile and broadband services.

No thank you!

I thought DirecTV AXED all dealers such as you years ago. I suppose you might consider yourselves lucky, especially if you ever made any ongoing income from DirecTV!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I knew they were stopping the program, but I sure as hell wasn't going to raise my hand and ask when they were going to cut me off!

There was no income with the non-program accounts.  That was (part of) the point.  I mainly wanted access so I could keep my existing client base happy and have spare receivers on site to be proactive instead of reactive for service calls and also to do the occasional new install.  I couldn't care less about getting paid by DirecTV.  I wasn't out to slap a DirecTV magnet logo on my vehichle, do a boat load of new installs / activations a month, etc.  I get paid by my client base for the work I do, and that is a whole lot more than I would ever make from DirecTV paying me.

DTV NEVER liked the installers actually making money, and this is just another cost cutting move.

That small amount of inventory you have, multiplied by all the others like you, is apparently a few bucks too many.

The installers actually have to lease the meters they use for installs, and it gets worse from there. Minimum wage at McD's probably pays better....

Were still a dealer, we do about 1 activation a quarter sometimes 2. We manly do it for our clients as well. Most of the time he DirecTV guy shows up and freaks out because of the racks. We explained this to our rep years ago and he kept us on. Our rep s now gone and we seem to be dealers still. Haven’t seen anything yet on pushing phones yet but when we do it may be time to look at dish.
