Spectrum DVR connected to a newly installed Denon AVRX1400. If the customer pauses playback, he looses audio when starts playing again. I'm waiting to hear back to see if switching to another source and back again restores audio. Not sure what I should be looking at here.

What kind of audio? I think I remember something like this happening with DTS... not sure...

What are the audio settings?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

There are no audio settings for the HDMI output, just for the digital audio outputs.

When I had my Dish Network DVR connected to an old Pioneer AVR via component and optical audio (no HDMI). It would have some wacky issues. The rare issue was no audio after a pause, either live or recording. The most common issue was that the fact the Pioneer AVR would freeze and needed an unplug to fix the issue. Took me a long time to diagnose the problem. Once I did, I bought a newer Pioneer AVR with HDMI and problems went away.

This is probably what Ernie was remembering. Which is why I posted it. And perhaps give you some ideas. Maybe you could go the opposite way and use the optical audio with component.

I had this exact problem with an Onkyo receiver. Tried switching it to the digital out instead of HDMI problem continued. Talked to both Onkyo and Spectrum tech, neither much help. She then made the remark that it was annoying her zone 2 speakers would continue playing when the sound dropped out of the main. I changed it to analog and problem went away. Luckily this lady is hard of hearing and prefers 5 channel stereo over 5.1 so that was problem solved

But I would venture to guess, it's something up with the digital audio on the Spectrum side of the coin. Maybe try a different model/brand DVR
One thing I have learned in this industry. It is easier to pull a wire than it is to push one.

Maybe try one of our EDID repair tools like the HDM-JR+.
Audio is the first to go (at least it is supposed to be) when there is an issue.
