I'm looking for a WiFi Access Point with controllable range. Pretty much want a guest mode (i.e. internet access only) in one room... go too far out of that room and no more wifi (obviously the signal will bleed out of the room somewhat, but not too much)

I'm thinking something as simple as an AP with a transmission power adjustment that is turned down.

It's for a shared conference room where we would like to allow guests (and building tenants who are out of their own WiFi range) to have simple internet access. I don't want it to be a regular strength AP (even P/W protected) or we will end up with people mooching the intewebs from us as their main connection.

Thoughts?

My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

What is the building construction? If the walls are dense, the WiFi will be mostly trapped in the room in any case. How many clients would be supported?

I have been intrigued by this. I have not had the chance to try one yet though.

I haven't worked with an AP yet that didn't have TX power adjustment.

I've would also look at the EnGenius wall plate AP and just turn the power down till you get the coverage you want. To get into a sectorized antenna or some type of pattern control will make the form factor bigger. You also might be able to do some sort of scheduling through the AP, PoE port (switch) or power strip to setup business hours for it to be active.
