Client has a small patio area (20' x 20') with a a thigh high stone wall around the perimeter and a flat concrete surface on top of the wall. Given the way furniture lays out in the space, we decided that putting the speakers atop the stone wall was our best option for sound quality.

Holes will be bored through the wall so that the speaker wiring can exit from the flat concrete surface, and then the speakers would either sit directly on the surface or perhaps be installed on a very small mount.

The goal is for the speakers to be as inconspicuous as possible, despite the rather conspicuous location.

The only other fixtures atop the wall are lanterns at each corner. The house - and the exterior landscaping - has a fairly traditional north eastern country house look.

Any thoughts on where to look for speakers that might fit in with this aesthetic?

Take a look at Terra. Maybe the AC five series? I’m not sure I agree that the top of the wall is your best choice for speaker location. No bass reinforcement, so you will want a sub.

I was thinking about having a rock layer come out to see about putting rocks over the speakers. Arch the stone over to make it blend in. Of course the client would have to pay the stone layer, unless you want to sub it out yourself.

Of course I have no idea how the stone wall looks now. In my area there are so Freaken many kinds of stone walls. Walls that have been in places for over 200 years. And weren’t meant for looks. Then there are the ones that were Perfectly placed for looks.

You guys providing coastal source missed the entire point of his line with NE traditional home which cans any of the modern crap.

I hate to say it but your not getting around the inconspicuous. The only thing I can say is to have a few planters made up to house sat speakers (maybe out of cedar Latice) not sure what you could do with the sub, except maybe another planter on the ground.

On the other hand, why don’t planters work on the ground?

I think your best option is to have the mrs pick out planters she likes and then use traditional landscape system satellites and have the Gardner plant around them. Then use an outdoor box subwoofer and hide it with planting’s or make it a nice planter!

I live in NE and have dealt with plenty of historic and traditional homes. Those CS bollards blend into any decor and also sound great.

We also can’t really advise shite until we see a layout or pics.

These planters are exactly the right look. In fact, this is what was installed previously on the patio.

The issue is that they are updating the patio, and we couldn't come up with a suitable location for planters in the new layout.

But you may be on to something with using custom planters around sat speakers for atop the wall. We may be able to get a sub into an end table (which is not well positioned for sats, but would work for the low frequency support.)

Would it be worth considering setting the speakers in the stone wall? We've done that; standard outdoor "bookshelf" (ie not in-wall) speakers, in a recess in the wall, with metal grille painted to match overriding color of the wall.
