I recently moved from Denon AVRs to Yamaha as i didnt like the fact that you cant get rid of the mute UI that the Denon AVRs inject into the HDMI out.

Ive just setup a Yamaha AVR and notice they do something similar with the volume level eg. +20db displayed on the HDMI feed when you move the volume up / down.

Is there a way to disable this ?

No. They just do that. At least the volume indication goes away in a couple of seconds.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

How do you make money in this business?

James, there is a way to turn it off. I just don’t remember where it’s at right now. Or at least I know you can on the aventage stuff. I have a couple customers that the volume indicator bugged them and wanted it off

Slimfoot has it in one!
I hate on-screen invasions almost as much as I despise glowing LED's at the front of a theatre... who would need a piercing bright LED on the front of their subwoofer to tell them that it's working?
This industry is not getting cheaper and cheaper, we're simply convincing ourselves that we have to push the cheapest option to customers.

It's like Christmas when the 24 port switch is flashing and flickering up front. So festive.

My wife put black electrical tape over the LEDs on the charging base for the remote in the bedroom. Back when we had a house phone she did the same with the stupid light on the handset.

Now if someone could invent something that would mute those annoying beeps from microwaves, stand alone cooktops, UPS, fans, A/Cs and whatever else that makes those beeps.

My rack is in my bedroom closet. Sometimes I’ll get in bed and realize I didn’t shut my closet door completely. It looks like I’m trying to land airplanes. And I like pitch black to sleep.

I use my ears to discern volume level, not my eyes. In fact, if you did a quick exercise, and close your eyes while adjusting your volume, my gut says you would quickly find the preferred volume level. :)

WTF? Because everyone sits around listening to pink noise all day. Yeahhhhh....

I guess no one in your house has every ran the volume up to full, because there was no sounds in the media at the time (or extremely low). Only to have the piss scared out of them when a loud noise suddenly happens because they didn't realize the volume was maxed.
Pretty sure everyone else has had this happen to them a few times; especially so when a volume indicator wasn't present either on screen, on the remote, or visible on the front of the equipment.

I set our URC AVR in our theater to have no visual volume feedback on the screen. I don't like it like that, but due to my wife's sensitive hearing and the fact she suffered from migraines, I find myself constantly adjusting the volume so it's not too loud for her. Other than this, I've never purposely set a system to not have visual volume feedback on a TV, but have been asked why it isn't there if we had to bypass the AVR for some reason. People are used to seeing volume level, since every tv for the past 30 years show it on screen.
