I have inherited an Apple Extreme/Express customer that needs updated. I use Ubiquity UAPLR for new construction but there's no way to retro these into the ceiling. Didn't want to have them laying on shelves. I do have Cat5e throughout the house. Any suggestions?
I was thinking about trying out one of the Mesh Solutions(Velop, etc etc). Has anyone had any luck with these? Good size house 4500sq/ft

Eero. It's easy, fast and reliable.

I've been enjoying the Ubiquiti Inwall access points. They are definitely not as potent as the ceiling mount units, but they are easy to place, replace the network port that they need, and you could place them in all or most rooms. A nearby not as potent access point is more effective than a more potent access point several rooms away.

At home I had been using a central LR, then replaced it with two IW's. It's very dense 1780's construction. The IW's give me more uniform coverage.

Eero is also a decent solution. I've heard rumors about Sonos issues associated with Velop. I don't know if these have been fixed.

Unless the building was made from materials that prevent RF passing through. I spent quite a while on the phone with EERO tech support and at the end, he said I'd be better off using something else.

We’ve used Amplifi a couple times and customers have loved it and swear the speed is faster than anything they have used before.

I have Eero in an 8000 sq ft ranch style home made entirely of stone and hard plaster with metal backing. It took 7 Eero units to cover but it works flawlessly.

So far i have done 3 EERO installations. All 3 have the 3ap pro kit.

Large mcmansion 13ksqft. Wired ethernet to each AP. Routing feature turned off on EERO.

4 Story townhouse in Chicago. Wired ethernet to each AP. Routing feature turned off.

Apartment down town Chicago. "master" eero wired to switch. Additional APs not wired.

All 3 systems are working perfectly.

We have installed the in-wall units in a couple situations similar to you where retrofitting wires was not possible but cat5e was wired.

The UAP-IW-AC-Pro is quite strong and in one installation in a 3 story house with a basement I was getting full WIFI in the basement from the unit installed on the third floor.

The only negative to the in-wall units is that they don't come with a power supply/PoE injector so a PoE switch is required.

We are doing about 20 Eero's a month. It just plain works. Sell the solution, not the product. Way less headaches than Luxul and UniF*ck. The margin I make on Luxul is chewed up when I have to go back 10 times trying to figure out whats wrong. We are still doing Tik and Ruckus on our new construction bigger jobs.

I have 10 Eero's in an old house with interior cinder block that we had to rip out UniFi, which was replaced with Luxul, which was replaced with Eero. The Eero outperformed both previous systems. The client has 17 sonos pieces on Eero. I am also using the Eero as a router on this job, with Family Profiles. It has been rock solid for 9 months. I was skeptical on whether it would work or not, and one my employees guaranteed it would, so I held him to it. Honestly I am surprised it outperformed gear that cost 5x as much. We are getting ready to do another old 8k sqft house with eero in a few months with Total Control...cant wait!

I call this house "The place where RF goes to die". Plaster walls & ceilings, all with metal screen lath. Stone exterior, two floors and full basement. The foundation is all masonry, about 16" thick.

I called EERO tech support and he said the APs should be placed so their coverage barely overlaps, which would leave gaps. Somehow, the phone installers had the presence of mind to use 4 pair cable, so I was able to install one of their Airport Express units in the master BR. The ATT droid ran two Cat5e to the attic while the hall closet was still open and I ran a Cat5e to the garage and small office in the kitchen, which was gutted for the remodel and that made a huge difference in decreasing the signal loss from the wall adjacent to the dining room.

This is a blended family and both side were big Apple fans- less so, now that they have been able to experience incredibly bad roaming. I replaced the Airport Extreme in the basement with an Engenius AP- all AV systems are on their own switch, each AP is connected to the main switch in the basement, although I'm planning to replace that with one that has more ports and GB speed on all of them.

Overall, it's performing much better and more consistently than it did when the U-Verse gateway was one of the old models and the Express was in the basement- when that was down there, it could barely do 2Mbps and I verified that it was the cause of the bottleneck by unplugging it. I have a total of five devices providing WiFi and while it's not totally consistent all over, it's well over 20Mbps almost everywhere. I plan to remove the rest of the Apple stuff soon.

I appreciated the honesty of the tech support guy- I have talked to so many who were perfectly willing to make claims that wouldn't be backed up by their company or allow the equipment to be returned if it didn't work as they said.

But, it's a very neat installation when connecting multiple access points to the PoE switch.

The PRO version costs $100 more and has a much more uniform radiation pattern and higher output than its regular sibling. Both claim to be able to deal with 250 clients.

I've also been using the CloudKey and USG for straight forward networks and have mixed feelings about ease of setup. It is cute that the CloudKey logs all attempted WiFi connections. This can be very handy if the customer complains that WiFi doesn't work very well at certain times. I can pick through the log and see that a neighbor had a 40MHz wide access point set to an "Automatic" channel. I can also see all of the cars and phones driving by, looking for access points.

Anyone using EERO with Control4? If yes, how well does it work?

Yes but for a couple locations for a smaller home it does increase the price significantly compared to the ceiling mounted devices that are shipped with PoE injectors.

It works fine with Control4, although we limit it to a one room system when Eero is the router. (Eero is on Control4's do not use list, dropping devices). Also, I find Eero doesn't play well with Static IP (especially static setting DNS to be the Eero router), so use Eeros IP reservation system instead.
