I need to assign HDMI video to an analog audio input. I want to match DTV video with a Heos. I swear, I thought they had added this ability, to asign video to all inputs now, but I cant find it. Is this possible? If so, how?

I thought you assigned audio to video inputs in Yamahas. That is, in input assignments, you don't go to your audio input and attach the video input to it. You go to the video input and assign the audio input to the video input.

I could be wrong.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

On the top model you can assign video to all inputs that dont have video, like audio 1, phono, etc. And you can assign video to the network sources like pandora and spotify

I think if you want to do something like have a cable box show on the display but play a separate audio source on an analog input you have to make a scence. I don’t recall the exact steps to do it offhand. It works but wasn’t intuitive to set up. Once it is set up pressing the scene button on the Yamaha sets it - no macros required to set power, input, sound field. It all happens as one command which is nice.

Scenes don’t work with Elan. I just can’t believe they added the ability to assign video to audio sources on the 20xx and 3xx but didn’t include it on the 10xx

What do you mean they don't work? Does Elan simply not have scene commands in their driver?

Nope. I can send DSP commands and use then in macros, but they have never built the scene commands into their drivers

I don’t know the program structure of Elan but can you connect an IR out of the controller to the Yamaha and do a When event? Like when DVD activity is selected send scene1 on IR output 1? Just to work around the driver? This might sound stupid but I’ve never programmed Elan.

The problem with that is I can only assign one source to an input. And Elan follows the input status of the AVR. For example, if I go to the rack and manually change inputs, Elan will change the interface to the corresponding source. So even if I issue an IR command for a scene, I can’t get the interface to go to the correct input.

Ran into this a few months ago, it only works on the 870 and below models which we use the feature all the time. I think you might be able to assign the video to the streaming and tuner inside I didn't try as I didn't need that. I called into to tech support and after they got a few people on the phone someone finally knew it was not a feature on the 1070.

After all these years, I can't believe Yamaha and Denon can't friggin build this into their mid/lower end level receivers.

Then it seems like maybe the 10 and 20 models are the only ones without the feature. I’m pretty sure the 30 has it. Either way, I called tech support and the guy told me none of their receivers had the option. He also had no idea what the web setup menu is.

Can't you specify a digital or optical audio signal source for the HDMI video input? If so, this will require a conversion for the analog audio.

With respect to ELAN, can you issue HTML commands? If so, you can easily control the Yamaha with some XML commands. This will not, of course, control the ELAN's response to status changes.

The problem with specifying an analog input is I wanted to use one video input with multiple audio only sources.

As for the second question, I can’t send HTML commands to a device that is connected to one of Elan’s two way drivers. Elan won’t let me use the same IP address twice. At least, I don’t think it will.

After spending some time rethinking the design on this system, I figured out how to rework it so that I could pair the HEOS audio to the HDMI input for the video source I wanted and made it work. This required using 3 DTV receivers so one could be dedicated for just a video source when using the HEOS.
