Here is the deal... I have worked with IR codes for years. I generally know more than the average Joe having interpreted code documentation blah blah blah....

Two mounting frustrations...

1. Apple TV (gen 4)... horrible skipping has increased lately with third party integration and navigation codes don't seem to work in the Amazon Prime app. Also when in the vertical settings menus, up/down no longer work and you have to use left/right. In addition to this, they seem to have changed the navigation such that when you move up or down in a grid menu, the selector moves but will not highlight until you move left/right. Is this new??? If so, when did this happen??? and what dumbass though this was cool? I will try the imprinting of other code process to see if tht helps.

2. X1... horrible skipping. It comes, it goes, it is worse on some jobs and hardly an issue on others.

Now the back story... Most of these jobs use Crestron 3 series processors. Many are using RTI remotes (T2i and T2x) with Crestron 433 RF trigger codes. The RTI remotes are a contributor because when issuing Crestron trigger codes, the button will not actually sustain but rather it rapid fires code repeats. I have written some logic to try and mitigate this but the rapid fire repeats just makes the issue worse. I have tried adjustments on the RTI side but cannot seem to find a workable solution. I did not have this issue until the T2i/x remotes.

I would appreciate any comments on the issues I have but please don't tell me to learn the codes again properly with my IR learner :)

As far as X1. There is a updated ir list that was released around 2016ish. It’s rock solid, now this is for C4 but ir codes are ir codes!

The new Apple TVs are a total crap shoot. I think it has more todo with IR placement then codes. I spent a half hour moving the emitter around and got it to respond 95% normally!

Well....learn your codes again. Kind of... Learn in a different code set like the OPPO Blu-ray (or I assume you have a database) or get a URC remote and learn their "learn codes" and teach those codes into the Apple TV. RTI code set IR for ATV gen 4 works fine too. Not bashing you, I'm just shocked people don't know this. Especially a Crestron programmer. This is old news. Read Ernie thread a few days back.

That's assuming you can't do IP?

How did you learn the codes in the first place? Silver remote? Those aren't enough anymore.

And I don't know Comcast but there is a new set up ir codes for their new boxes. They work in the Cox Contour boxes there so we have had to figure that one out too.

So...Yeah...learn your codes again.

We do a combination of both sources weekly and I am not hearing the guys bitch much about either, guys bitch to bitch though. I have an ATV Gen 4 in front of me controlled by RTI and have no issues, the emitter is floating in front of the device. And I'm too lazy to fix it, mostly because it works fine.

I'v sent out a clean set of X1 codes to at least a dozen people here over the years. And learn the codes into ATV and you should be good to go.

Regarding Apple TV. I have had solid working code sets for some time both from existing libraries and cleanly generated by me. This seems new. I have not seen code repeats like this for some time. I have been controlling via Crestron, RTI, URC no problem. I plan on mapping the codes of something solid like a Panny DVD for the Apple TV but I also have the issue of navigation not working within the Prime video app. I think this is just app related and may have nothing to do with the IR code set. I will post a new thread on that.

I am starting to think it is not actually a code issue with either. It may have to do in part with the RTI remotes. I have been studying the RF code issue behavior and at least from a T2i and T2x, they are rapid firing the codes instead of sustaining and I have not figured out a way to mitigate this. I wrote gated logic in Crestron which helps but both of these devices seem to be susceptible to the way the RF is transmitted. I have tried all manner of manipulation including placing the codes in various macros (repeat while pressed, repeat once, etc... as well as direct commands on the buttons) but RTI does not allow for much control over the 433 trigger codes for Crestron. I am going to try it with an older remote like a T3 to see if it is a firmware issue with RTI. I have used this configuration for a number of years with little to no issue but something has changed and I don't know what.

The trick (especially with the 4K ATVs) is to leave the emitter floating in front of it. After dithering with placement and IR output (RTI processor), I have found that to be the best answer. I just tape the cord to the top of the ATV and let it hang there.

I have also found out that they work better wirelessly. Hardwired they seem to lock up more frequently. Thanks fro the tip Brent.
