I stumbled across this video on YT. It was recorded in NYC in 1993 onto a 3/4"VHS tape in digital format. The picture is absolutely amazing, even compared to 1080.

Won't say which manufacturer but the first bluray demos at CES were actually D-VHS. The BD Players were dummies with lights.
The doors below the players were kept locked for a good reason.
I still have a JVC D-VHS machine that I used to copy material from a cable box. Then to a PC. What a PITA just to get HD videos.

Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...

Yeh I remember being there and going to the BDA exhibit before the show closed. There was no one there so I proceeded to hit eject on the BD player. The drawer opened but the video kept playing. :) I repeated that on other ones and at least three did that from what I recall.

I used to have a D-VHS as well as the analog high def format known as W-VHS. Used to record Sapranos episodes onto W-VHS from the component output of a HD cable box. Picture quality was very good, but not as good as direct digital copy.

I guess it had to be digital because analog VHS looks like shyte.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."
