So I have this install where the door to the Rack Closet is right up to the face of the Rack. I want to install a Network switch that is rack mount US-24-250w. But i cant have the cables that go into the switch sticking out. No room to rear face it ether.

So what I'm Looking for is a 1u Offset. You would screw the offset to the rack face like normal then it would provide a 4" gap to another set of Rack screw holes to mount the switch.
I envisioned it looking like a Z from the Top.

do you all knowing guys know of anything like that?

thanks,
Flandon

would you have room to sit the switch on a 1 or 2u shelf, then slide it back on that shelf and secure it through some creative engineering?

I have searched for something like this before without success, so would be interested if you find anything.

Customised solutions I have used have included:

Long rack bolts to provide the offset with spacers and nuts/ washers to secure the switch.

1U deep rack shelves, sometimes with a cable management slot cut along the front edge.

Longer rack ears made up by local metalwork shop

seems there could be a market opportunity here, sometimes its not just for switches, but some other equipment that has handles or knobs that protrude from the face, and where accommodating other deep equipment prevents you from moving the front rails back into the rack.
What do you mean you wanted it on the other wall - couldn't you have mentioned this when we prewired?

I think those MA z-brackets ship with cage nuts, FWIW.

yes the MA is Cage. So is this

[Link: amazon.com]

the US-24-250w rack mount is part of the face of the switch so no sitting it on a shelf

I guess i wasn't googling Recessor.

I think ill just use the cage screws and call it a day.
thanks guys.

Short of a shelf option: you could always make it look interesting by using lacing bars to suspend and recess the switch. Not: you will have to drill out the holes in order to place the lacing bars back to back. The link below is all the lacing bar option from Middle Atlantic.

Option B: Look at the few reliable switch makers as some offer multiple ear configurations. Well the more expensive switches do.
Good luck

I've seen Mac's pics of rack ears with holes, for routing the cables to the back, and also his pics of the brushed pass through (which I guess were lost through Photobucket)

Edit - if you use the 2U z-bracket, you could also use the 1U brushed pass-through

What is the Rack?

Can you not slide the rack rails back enough to accommodate the required depth for the door to close with the cables installed?

This is one of the main reasons we use MA racks as they allows us to slide the front rack rail back to accommodate for receiver knobs, amp handles, front loading networking devices, etc. and still place a door on the unit.
You can't fix stupid
