Just recently installed 4 Digital Watchdog cameras at a summer home. One of the cameras has a defect in that it works fine during daylight hours but at night I get a large white ring around the image. The are no lights close by that could be affecting this. Has anyone seen this before? Here is a snapshot of the image at night.

My 1st guess is; this is a dome camera and the IR barrier has come loose inside (or missing). Might be able to fix it easily if you see a black felt ring laying in the dome somewhere.

Or 2. Someone forgot to peel off the protective shipping film on the dome?

3. The gimbal could be broke or missing a screw, causing the IR barrier to not get pressed against the dome.

4. You have a defective cam.

Is that PTZ? Log into Remote Setup and make sure you can control the camera's settings- look for SmartIR and see if changing that makes a difference. Also, look at the camera and make sure the rubber doughnut around the lens is intact and in contact with the dome. It looks like there's a gap and the IR is bypassing the doughnut.

You can also call their tech support to get their opinion on the problem. They'll probably fix it for you, or tell you how.

Be glad it was not a G4 Camera. They will just smile and flip you the bird.

I had the exact same issue on a Hik dome cam on my house.  I swapped it out for another camera and all was well there.  I sold it at a discount to someone with an explanation of the issue and we installed it inside.  It has no issues with IR.  I think it is likely the dome was not seating correctly against the lens surround when installed on my house and now it is.  No other explanation for why it is ok now.

Brad and Highfigh have got it, I'm sure. IR looks white on a camera, so in the dark, that white can only come from some kind of IR. What IR source is often found all around the lens, such that leakage would create some kind of circular pattern? Perhaps with some indication of individual points of light, such as the star pattern in the middle? IR.

Someone lost their donut. The shipping things wouldn't cause problems just at night.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Power drop due to additional current requirements of IR?
