I’ve been putting off doing the initial layout and programming for a Vantage job I have to start wiring soon. So I decided to give my daughter the blueprints, a handful of highlighters, my laptop, and some instructions. If this works out, these offspring things may finally be worth it. 😃

Feel free to start taking bets on how this will turn out.

I predicts a purple cat in the living room, flowers in the bedroom and a rainbow over the fireplace. All connected to the lighting system of course.

She's 13 not 7.

I predict very little done on the laptop but some interesting ideas on the blueprints with highlighters.
When they don't know of a box to work in, you will get many ideas 'outside of the box'.

Well, she got the blueprints marked up (after I had to go through a full explanation as to why they aren’t blue) and got the the Vantage file set up with all the rooms in it and I showed her how to add loads. I thought she made a lot of progress for a Sunday afternoon.

Now I’ll just have to see if anything else gets done.

Smurf tube will blow her mind, then.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

That might be the saddest thing anyone has said all year.

But it might be too traumatic to learn that it's made from ground up Smurfs.

Just tell her that they USED TO be blue. Still can be, if the paper can be found. Last time I needed to make one, I didn't have a machine- I had to place the drawing over the blueprint paper & cover it, take it to direct sunlight, guess at how long it needed to be exposed before covering it again, then take it to a room with no sunlight to expose it to ammonia.

Good times!

I would second this.

The ideas that kids have when it comes to home design is very out of the box but at the same time brings a different perspective to ideas. They think of the "cool kid things" that most of us don't think about.

A 13 year old has a lot of knowledge although may not be in the industry box, what she comes up with will be quite astonishing. She will most likely miss the simple area lights but will come up with great ideas to place accent lights that you would never have thought about.

Pick her brain when she's done to figure out why she wanted lights in areas that you would not have put them. Her ideas will be interesting and may help you with ideas for future lighting projects.

Yeah, but Colbert has just used a Keebler cookie to portray Jeff Sessions -- the similarity is remarkable, even in size -- and that almost fills the gap.
