Wow.... Um.. Meridian speakers really need to be set up by someone trained by Meridian.... I spend 3 Days in Atlanta a while back learning how to set those systems up.... Definatly NOT something that can be explained on a message forum... What processor are you using????

Where is your dealer and why is he not helping you?

I would seriously call a meridian dealer. Those are highly sophisticated speakers and I am sure you would want the set up properly because you paid a pretty penny for them. Make sure the dealer IS a meridian dealer.

If memoy serves correct they are 28K a pair. Meridian does have software on the web site.

Actually, they,re $53k a pair. I agree, I have set up several of these and if you do it improperly they might not sound very good (due to phase correction, etc., definetly not because of the speaker).

Sorry to beat a dead horse BUT where is your dealer? I am a meridian dealer and if one of my customers moves to a different area I find out from my rep who is in the area, call them to let them know I have a customer who bought from a real dealer and introduce my customer. Why do you not call your dealer and ask him to do the same.

Thanks for your replies guys. Unfortunately they're not my speakers. I've not hit the jackpot yet! I'm just the installer. The guy who owns them purchased them used so they didn't come via a dealer. However, there is a local dealer we will call after your recommendations especially to do the calibration.
The basic setup for 2 speakers seems straight forward using the manuals, except that the volume for the right (slave) speaker will not synch. with the master although it will change source and switch on/off etc.
The processor is a 568.2 surround hooked to a 598 DVD-Audio player. These are linked to the left (master) speaker via a digital audio cable and 5-pin comms. link. the right speaker is connected similarily to the master (left). Following the manual for the speaker set-up as type 1 or type 6, master/ slave configs. and the 568.2 set as controller everything works except the slave volume.
The speaker setup manual doesn't go into too much detail so maybe it's a dealer specific setup issue and as you mentioned, too much info for this forum. Any ideas before calling the dealer? - jsj

The first speaker off the 568 gets an M-lead. The lead from the first to the second speaker is a S-lead. Different wiring. M-lead on master and S-lead on the slave.

This could be it, the owner had a 50' cable made up for the first speaker. It's possible the S (slave) cable is wrong. Any clues to the pin layout? -jsj

The Master cable goes from the processor to the left speaker, it has one 240 degree din plug (Master wiring) and one 180 degree din plug (slave wiring). From the left to the right speaker you have a cable with two 180 degree din plugs (both wired as slave).

Wiring:

Master:
Pin 1=Not used
Pin 2=Not used
Pin 3=Wire braid
Pin 4=Center conductor
Pin 5=Tied to din plug casing

Slave:
Pin 1=Not used
Pin 2=Not used
Pin 3=Braid + tied to din casing
Pin 4=Center conductor
Pin 5=Not used

Good luck,

Matt

Dave and Matt,
You got it! Pin 5 was grounded at the speaker end of the master cable. One snip later and we have total control and one happy client. Thanks again and have a Merry Xmas. - jsj.

Best pair of speakers I'll probably ever hear and for that price so they should be!
