We are seeing a lot more customers who want to enclose there projectors with a box that matches the room cabinets. Problem is that the projectors will shut down to protect themselves. We have been creative with some big vents. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas? Have thought about the thermal management products but don't know where we would vent the duct.

Chuck, you should think of the enclosure (or 'hushbox') as a tiny room that requires exhausting, like a bathroom. A 3" duct can always be run between joists toward an outside wall. How easily depends on the house and the skills of the installer. There are usually several threads going around at any given time about this in various forums over at the AVS Forum, such as CRT Projector and Home Theater Builder.

Use an intake and exhaust fan using 3" tubing. Intake low, exhaust high. Use silent PC fans that run off 12v.

OEX is right...there are several VERY good, and VERY application specific products, located at www.activethermal.comspecifically, the cool-tubes line of projects on their site!

Studiocats1:
What is the relative noise level for the protector without a duct, just the filter grill option?

I installed two of these in a gentlemans club with the duct. So between the sound system and the girls coming and going I really wasn't listening very hard. Sorry.
I suggest calling them. They were very helpful.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything. "The biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." -- G. “Bernie” Shaw |

You can also use an inline bathroom vent fan and take the exhaust to a climate controlled mechanical area of the home. Also, be sure to put a few bends in the inlet of the enclosure to keep the fan noise from radiating directly out. Any of you speaker builders out there, think folded slot port and you've got the right idea.
