Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
I don't know of anyone in the industry who didn't see this one coming...
The Oppo Blu-ray operation was shunted to the arse end of the building some time back, it's all about phones now.
This industry is not getting cheaper and cheaper, we're simply convincing ourselves that we have to push the cheapest option to customers.

That is a lot of phones, and a tough market to break into.

Had no idea. Guess thats what happens when you have just about zero market share? Maybe they have some international sales?

Considering that if you put 100 random people off the street in front of a demo with an OPPO vs another UHD player - 95 of them would not likely perceive a difference, and the other 5 would lie.

not that there is not a difference - just consumers are not picky anymore. and the ones that are cannot keep a business open by buying one product every 5 years.

Bets on who do you think will be next???

It's funny you say this (not picky anymore). I'm 41, the first surround sound system I owned, 20 some years ago, revolved around a Hi Fi VCR and a Laserdisc player. And I LOVED IT! Many here still cater to the "boomer" crowd. So that means 4 or 5 different formats over the years, one looking better than the last. I guess I can see where people would say "I just stream movies now" etc. The picture is miles ahead of where it was decades ago when Jaws was a big deal.

Though I will say 4k projection, with the new enhanced price-points, are pretty awesome.

My guess is Oppo phones have been available overseas for a fair amount of time. We do not see a lot of things or brands that have huge market share around the world, and when we do we often poo poo on it because it isn't a brand name we recognise.
Look up top 10 TV manufactures, there are at least 4 in the top 10 I doubt most here will ever have heard of or ever seen (unless you travel extensively) and a couple of others that many would never consider buying.

Wow, never would have guessed it.
I thought, maybe office system phones; cellphones never crossed my mind.

Maybe if they allowed us to make some margin on the players they would have seen more sales!

I assume they figured they could survive on the direct sales model. problem is outside of their existing fanbase - most people had never heard of them until I brought them up. They were kind of buggy so I defaulted to the higher end SONY UHD last year. Made more money on Sony
