Dreggs are the shiz to the nit!
I was wrong- they'll be here on the 11th.
MKE had a station with a Fusion/Prog show in the mid-'70s and they played bands like The Dixie Dregs, Tony Williams Lifetime, John McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth, lots of Jeff Beck, Bruford, UK, Soft Machine and many others. Later, MSOE's station WMSE went live in '81 and the first thing I heard them play outside of the dorms was King Crimson's Discipline- I didn't know they were going live but I happened to be bored by what was on the radio, so I hit the scan button and it landed on 91.7 FM. I knew Crimson was coming out with a new album and had no idea what would be on it, but as soon as it came on the radio, I knew who I was hearing.
I went to the NAMM convention in about '80 and ran into the guy who had been our Pioneer rep when I got into the business- he told me to go to the Lexicon room, but wouldn't tell me who was there. As I approached, I realized they had Steve Morse demonstrating and after the show, he stayed for some Q&A. I asked if there was any chance of The Dregs coming back to MKE and that's when he told me the band had split up. Ran into Bill Bruford as he searched for the room where he was supposed to demo the SynDrums and since I had already passed it, I guided him. As I stood near the door, a large man moved slowly into the room- it was Carmine Appice.
