Not a big drinker. Like my scotch and a few beers. New pool and outdoor area built. Live in a tight knit small neighborhood and friends with many of the mature neighbors. We plan on a little party inviting the neighbors over. What would be a good choice of liquors and mixers for a mature crowd. That being 60 and up. Just a few basics. I’m sure the list will be long here, so maybe once done all of you could agree on a few and condense it. This should take your mind off HDMI for a few.
The party for 50 and under I have covered.

Hard to go wrong with wine. You will want a decent red and white. It surprises me how popular White Zinfandel is! It terrible stuff to me. Serve it chilled along with the white. Decent inexpensive Chardonnay, Bogle. Decent drinkable red is Ménage a Trois red blend.

My go to house wine is now Apothic Red. Really good flavor and the finish is incredibly long lasting. Cheap too. 7-8 bucks. Cant beat it.
If you want to spend a little more, every time I open a bottle of Cooper & Thief Red Blend, even those that done drink wine say "I like this!". Aged in charred barrels, it got a flavor its own. My all time favorite wine. But at $25 a bottle, not my house wine lol.
Hard to discern the taste of most good scotches IMO. They pretty much all taste about the same and cant really go wrong, unlike wine. On the blended side and cheaper side my go to is Ballatines. Hard to beat for the price.
Like any "bar", the staples: Vodka, Gin, Whiskey are basics. Dont go cheap on any of them. Woman ten go more for the sweeter so adding some liquors like Baileys, Amaretto, and a flavored like melon or coconut gives you a good mix to get creative.
But in the end, with a mature crowd you cant loose with just wine and scotch lol. Always have a good whiskey like Angles Envy or the like. You'll be fine.
Agreed Knight, Zin is for those that dont like wine but they will drink that sweet stuff.

Vodka and tonic, youd be surprised how many women drink vodka. Also Gin. Then a good bourbon. In my opinion, Buffalo Trace is the best bourbon for its price point. Its better than many that are much more expensive. You could make sure to have the stuff to mix an old fashioned.
But really for a pool party, where its probably going to be day time and warm, mostly beer and wine. So stock up on plenty of debutante crack

The ideal situation is to let the alcohol wear off before you write your review: On March 28, 2018 at 09:06, Ranger Home said...

This might be regional (MN/WI), but I have seen many a ~senior dive into the Old Fashioned pool.
Also to add on to the gin/vodka tonic, don't forget to have a bunch of soda as well.
