I am doing a system in the near future where the cust. wants to have comp video In three different rooms using three different sources (HD Tivo Recorder, HD Sat Rec, and DVD Player) . Excuse my ignorance I am new to this. First of all, can I Use three RG6 Quad for comp video(will this work) or is there something better? Is there such a thing as a multi-source, multi-zone component video switcher; if so, who makes them. Also this system will also have three IR repeaters, do they have any that will take three inputs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'll figure it out by the time you wake up tomorrow. Good Night |

Try using the 'forum search' feature... I came up with two threads from the last few weeks that answer a lot of your qs... [Link: remotecentral.com][Link: remotecentral.com]There was something about the IR stuff on the front page...

Yes, RG6 works, even mini-coax works. Cat5 w/baluns doesn't work past 480i. Key Digital Systems makes an 8 source by 3 room switcher, has funky IR control but solid rs232. Went about 250' w/o any additional signal amplification.

I'm currently testing a new system from Audio Control that sends component video and digital audio to three locations via Cat5. So far I'm getting very nice 1080i performance. You'll love the owner's manual -- the Audio Control folks have a great sense of humor. Here's the link: [Link: audiocontrol.com]

It doesn't seem any different than any cable or sat box.(macro-wise) Have you experienced anything in particular?

Take a look at the Autopatch I have for sale in the marketplace forum: [Link: remotecentral.com]It will distribute 8 component sources into 6 zones. You can add the Xantech IRS232a (about $250) for adding IR control. If you are using RG6 quad, make sure that it has a solid copper center conductor and not a copper coated steel one. CJ

Audio Control has worked great for me. And the digital audio is a bonus.

As previously stated, RG-6 QUAD will work fine... to save space, and increase profit, Mini RGB from Signature, Liberty, CommScope or the like will work just as well...if not better! check here for distribution options to multiple locations: www.keydigital.comwww.extron.comwww.audioauthority.comand of course, ALL of the high end, RELIABLE automation companies offer this feature with ease... www.crestron.com specifcally the PVID line www.amx.comwww.elan.comand MOST importantly, in addtion to learning how to use the forum search feature here on RC, try this link; www.google.comI hear they often come up with EVERY answer imaginable, in less than a second usually, although I rarely use them, cause I just find all my info from my fellow pros here! Welcome!

I don't know about this one, I was about to start using the mini RGB until I looked at its signal attenuation, its pretty bad beyond 30 FT. but a copper/coopper RG-59 is a good compromise (performance, price, size...)

It takes two commands in sequence, one for the output and one for source, they have to be one second apart. Press the wrong key at the wrong time and it goes whacko, requiring a complete re-synch by pressing and holding the group key. A little tough to explain to the client why he has to do this all the time. Went to rs232 and all is well.

jazzman, I have been using 1/2 sec. delays with good results. I will play with it a bunch more to ensure bulletproof. Or at least IR bulletproof. I have not had to do any resets though.
