OOMA and alarms generally don't play well together. Most alarms required *99 before it called out and a newer panel to support it. I found out that for a while OOMA had an "alarm mode" but you had to call into their abysmal support to get them to activate it, most times failing miserably because the overseas support didn't even know it was an option.

Normally it was easier to just get the alarm company to upgrade the panel if needed and program the *99 code and hope to god your alarm company knew how todo this.

Dreading an installation of OOMA today I was poking around in the settings and ran across alarm mode. Wouldn't you know it puts the ooma telo into basically a true "bridge mode" that all alarms work with. It does away with the ooma chime when you hit the talk button and does away with call waiting alert that messes with the panel calling out. This seems to be a feature silently added in the last few months!

The only reason im recommending OOMA to my clients is I need to get away from any XFINITY provided modems, especially the new one where it cannot be placed into bridge mode. Alot of clients either just do away with the phone all together or
in some cases they want it for their elderly family to call. (or in the case of a home elevator a landline is required) Most clients jump at the opportunity to not have to pay for phone service (just the taxes and fees) This was a great find and makes the change over that much easier!

FYI OOMA does not have a battery back up so you will need to add a UPS if there isnt one already on site!

Not sure why you would not use a cellular radio for the alarm panel.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

This X1000.

We will not put a alarm in without cellular ...and we have not for over 3 years.....quality of dial tone whether from a provider or a pure IP generated dial tone....we will not use dial tone any more.

I don’t do alarms, although I’m looking at getting into them since PA deregulated it for the ISPs

I have told my clients that they should contact their companies to have one installed, it’s on them!

Just went into my Ooma account and made this change. You do it through devices. Select you Ooma device, open it up, and select comms mode as alarm.

We too haven't used a phone line in years. But it would be nice for backup if the cell communicator wasn't working properly. Which does happen....

Do I need to come up there and tell you, and show you, how to make this work, without you doing the work?

It can be a cash cow.
